The tradition continues! So....

Minnesota Renaissance Festival - Amateur Championships

Sept 8 & 9, 2012
Shakopee, MN (Minneapolis)

This will be the sixth consecutive year that the Minnesota Renaissance Festival will host an Amateur Championship. We will be selecting 10 (or so) amateur throwers to compete in the competition on Saturday. As usual, I am hoping to get at least 2 or 3 international competitors for this year's game. The plan is to have at least 10 invited throwers on Saturday.

On Sunday Sept 9, we will hold an open amateur competition. If there is enough interest, we will once again host a women't competition Sunday as well.

The games will provide each invited (Saturday) athlete :
2 nights hotel
Travel allowance (amount to be determined)
Game day lunch, water, sports drinks
T-shirt

Competition format is under discussion but will include:
- Breamar Stone
- Open Stone
- HWD
- LWD
- 22# Hammer
- Caber
- WOB (Standing only)

*maybe* sheaf toss. In discussion.
If you are interested in this competition for either day, or have comments or questions, please contact me at:

So Lannie and I were discussing the fact that, once again, our games are on the same day. I wanted to let people know as part of this post that Lannie and I are going to work together to ensure both games get adequate representation. (Lannie is running the Mid-West Championship in Columbus, IN the same weekend).

I did not pick the date of the game this year. I do know that the marketing director did take the QC Games and Pleasanton into consideration when choosing the date. Unfortunately, she did not know to look for the date of the game in Columbus.

I will remember to discuss the Columbus, IN game with Lannie for 2013 before the dates for the MN game are selected.

Always had fun in MN.  A very competitive amateur field every year.  Look back over the guys who have been and thrown at this one.  It is a serious games and very deserving of World championship name.

Competed here in my first international Highland Games in 09.  Great day, very well run and well looked after.  Would recommend anyone to make the trip.

I am kind of at the mercy of the festival brass. They run the festival about 7 weeks. I tell them to avoid having the higland themed weekend the same weekend as the P-Town games and the QC Games. Beyond that, they do the rest and tell me when to be there.

...and Duncan, I won't send out invites for at least 3 or 4 more weeks.

I want to thank all the throwers who expressed interest in the game this year. The selection process was not easy, with so many qualified athletes wanting to participate.

For those who are wondering, there were at least 8 other throwers in consideration. Some were invited but could not attend.

Looking forward to another great competition.

Having trouble with this for 2012. Dead

Flight costs and athlete schedules have been prohibitive and troublesome. After talking with 4 different Scottish athletes, I might have to move forward this year with the current roster. Not giving up hope yet, but not looking promising.

Couple of last minute changes (due to life and injury). Spencer and Dickens had to withdraw. Adam Brezina and Josh Roslik have been added to Saturday.

The Sunday list was also updated.
