I thought this might be applicable to most everyone here, myself included.  Solid research backed by scientific and anecdotal evidence.

I think I would get much more from a guy 5'10" 200lbs who still by todays standards would be one of the strongest men in the world...if not the strongest.

"circa 1906" !?

Brian,

You and I see eye to eye on Saxon.  I can't argue that he was strong (maybe even the strongest) but maybe there is room for at least some improvement over 100 years. I am NOT, however, saying that there is no other way.  I'm not trying to convert anyone, just offering some info.  Take it if you like, or leave it if you don't.

I will say when I see another man put up the numbers he did at 200lbs...then I will believe that we have improved.  I have yet to see it.

200lb barbell snatch with ONE HAND?  One.  @ 200lbs to boot.  Saxon, Sandow, Gormer (Over 700lb ONE HANDED deadlift)  Again I will believe it when I see some in this day and time achieve those goals. Oh and BTW....all of these guys were WAY before steroids
