Anyone have experience making the blades for the sheaf shoe. I made some this year, however the blades are flexible. I'd like to know exactly what I should get and also how to get the perminant "s" bend that I have seen. Any advice would be great!

wat.
I would not wear blades for the sheaf. If you need blades for the hammer, there have been several threads that have addressed that. |

or just buy some lawnmower blades and use a grinder to trim down the edge to a point. then attach to boot and voila..

How long should the blade be past the tip of the shoe?

imo - blades are severely overrated.
learn to throw reasonably far before adding them. as a new thrower, it's about reps more than footwear (in every event). |

Pretty much my plan exactly. I'm starting with the bare bones basics and work my way up. When I can't get any more out of my hammer I'll go with blades. |

[some games ya cant wear em' may as well be prepared]

My bad, Jay! l was talking about without blades. Apparently, l thought that everyone could read my mind!! l'm sure that you remember that competitors are unable to use blades at the Claw. The Pockoski's ability to throw both with and without blades gives them a leg up on the competition. |

But Poke could throw the hammer a long way with one foot on a coffee can and the other in a hole.

out of curiosity, what kind of #s would you like to see before guys add blades? I've heard different things. 80/100, 90/110.. then you have the guys that are 60/80 and want to use blades.. I switched to blades when I was 90/110 and I've only added about 10ft to each with the blades. |

I got the blades when I was stuck at 80/100. I saw some immediate improvement with the blades (86/106), then threw again without them and hit almost the same numbers without blades. It was like the blades allowed me to push the envelope enough to teach my body how to throw it that much farther, and once I had done it, I was able to do it with or without blades.
I'm definitely still in the learning phase with blades, but I tend to agree with the alternating philosophy for practice. It seems like a good way to reduce the development of too many bad habits that can come from using blades all the time. Thousands of winds are in my immediate future... |

I am too paranoid to use blades. I fear for my ankles and knees. However, there's a possibility that I might use one blade next season. We shall see.

I must be a weird case then. The first time I used the
blades I added almost 30 feet to my throws. |

You are definitely an Anomaly! ![]() I think that the benefit is probably inversely proportional to weight at some level, which would explain your large benefit. I'm guessing you did this a few years ago, which means that there wasn't much of you there to keep you from taking off with those crazy fast rotations... |

I honestly think that it will help, but it is a matter of
knowing how to throw before you put the boots on. I think that if you have good tech the boots will help for sure. |

Should I be practicing the 22 to be better at the 16? Kinda like a baseball player swinging on deck with a donut on his bat. |

Buddy of mine up north said the best thing he ever did for his hammer was practice with a 2 1/2# plate on paracord. Warmed up with it and hit a new PR.
