Just a thought I would like to hear peoples input on. How long
did it take you to go from one distance to the next? Take the 28#
wfd. How long was it before you went from throwing in the:
40's to the 50's 50's to the 60's 60's to the 70's 70's to the 80's 80's to the ....... oh never mind? |

Well, throwing #'s, and consistently throwing them is a different story. But it took me 1 season for each (10ft.) jump, and i started in the 40's. -C |

1st games - 44 feet... by end of first year - 63 feet 2nd year - 72 4th year - 80 noticed the biggest difference from video-taping the throws and working drills... Stone toss... started with a 40 footer and haven't improved. |

Well, I just started throwing last year. I'm 45. I was throwing upper
40's last year, hit almost 60 so far this year. The only problem is
that my high school boys, both under 190 competitors, are throwing
farther than me now.
64 feet something for my 18 year old. But, I can still kick their butts!

Yeah, those are all my kids. Same wife. Yes, there are eight.

BAck in the day..."if" you had a lot of talent there
wasn't much sharing ! I think the learnig curve is way up now with the internet and clinics that have people improving 10-feet in a day. I've seen most track and field guys and gals improve 10-20' in a day of instruction ...as they have BASIC motor paterns that mimic the proper techique. IF they threw both discus and Oly hammer well...the learning curve is really fast...!

I started off right at 60 in the first meet I threw, then
progressed up to 70 about 2 years later, then a learning curve hit and I dropped back down to 60. I found the further I threw the olympic hammer the more my 28 would decrease...it could also have been overtraining Since I went full time (3 years) I
went from 60, 70 last year to 79 this year. |

My first games I threw 44' and three games later I was at 52' with one spin. I think alot of that had to do with getting more comfortable with the footwork. My second year I was still doing one spin, although I had many tell me to start two. Finished the year with 54'. This year started working on two spins, took awhile to get use to. Right away I noticed a difference easily hitting mid-50's. After a few games I was consistantly in the 60's, closing in on mid-60's. I have no track and field background but sure wish I did. Damn Track Athletes! With more footwork drills, time in the weight room shooting for 70' in 2005. Jim Garrick Alberta Scottish Athletic Association Edited by JGarrick |
