Just got back from the Buffalo, Missouri games.  It was an awsome day to throw, just a little on the Warm side. Ancient athletics did another great job hosting this event in a small towm that is really behind the athletics. Bill Lefler won the over 50 Masters and broke his own world record braemar throw. What a stud! (Dean Ross was amazing and threw like a madman for all of his 62 years!) Don Johnson had a great day and kept his hair perfect all day and took third, Kevin Mcallister took fourth and didn't hurt himself or any spectators.
I managed to pull out a win in the 40-49 class, barely. Laynne Burnett killed me most of the day except for the height events and maybe hammer and took second, Harvey took third.
They were able to put together a 190 class at the last minute and Nathan Burchett took first and tied a world record in the WOB at 16 feet.  Isaac Burchett took second (He threw a 28 foot sheaf and a 38 something heavy weight, not bad for a scrawny 16 year old) and Jim Spaulding, (The reigning under 200 world Master's Champ) took third. James Coughlin took fourth.
Scott Campbell took first in the "A" class. Newcomer Daniel Mckim took second place and will do better when he masters that caber thing! Mike, spin the 56 over my head, McGhee took third after coming back from a shoulder injury.
It was a very laid back game with good crowd support. A great place to get your feet wet if you want to throw in a friendly place.
I don't recall the "B" class, so someone else can fill that one in.

There were two women throwers. Jennifer Thompson won and Emily burchett placed 2nd, but did have two first places.

Thanks Merle and Kevin, let's do this again next year!
Daryl

Awesome awesome time.  Great crowd support and even better guys to throw with.  Merl and Ancient Athletics did an excellent job and made it a very classy and enjoyable games.

Everyone: Thank you so much for helping me with my technique in the events.  The caber and sheaf are something else, but enjoyable none the less.

Does anyone know what time Tulsa starts?  I can't make it to McPherson, so I might try to hit Tulsa.  Thanks.

>Daniel

Dan, I believe it starts about 9:00am.  Hopefully Cherie, Tulsa's AD, will see this and contact you.  I do think you can register at Ancient Athlectics for Tulsa.  Let me know, what I can do to help

Hey Daryl-

Ya left out the history-making, ... first and only time that 3 Masters athletes made a sweep of the Bonniest Knees contest.

1st - Dean Ross,  2nd - Don Johnson and 3rd - Harvey Wright.

How could those old ladies think Dean has the best legs? They're more like tree stumps.

Bill Leffler went over 34ft 5in with the 22.5lb Breamar Stone. Very cool!

Good luck in your training,

Yeah, I forgot how Dean kept showing that plaque to all the ladies. Or to anyone who came near. It will probably go right next to that World Champion ring up on his mantle. (Do trailers have mantle's?)

Isaac and Nate were disappointed that they didn't get to compete with you, but I'm sure the time will come soon.

Thanks again for a great day.

Man...what a great tiime we had in Buffalo. The Chamber and towns people were geared up for us and made us all feel welcome. The weather was great, the competitors were awsome, and a good time was had by all. These games seemed different than most, The vendors surrounded the atletic field, straw bales were set up beside the throwing stations. Lots of good comments from the vendors and the attendees...and most unusual of all, the event made money!

Don Johnson sent me a little Prose in Honor of the game, thought you might enjoy it as I did.

I SET ME SIGHTS ON BUFFALO

I PRACTICED THROWS AND SPINS

I,D GO TO BED AT NITE

AND DREAM OF ROCKS AND WINS

I FIRED UP THE OLD FLIVVER

AND TO BUFFALO I WENT

KNOWING , FAIR WELL , NO MATTER WHAT

MY TIME WOULD BE WELL SPENT

TO MY DISMAY WHEN I ARRIVED

THE FLIGHT LIST WAS QUITE ROUGH

SO I DECIDED THEN AND THERE

I,D HAVE TO SHOW MY STUFF

SO HALF WAY THRU THE THROWING DAY

THE CROWD WE ALL DID PLEASE

BY PULLING UP OUR KILTS SO HIGH

TO SHOW OUR BONNY KNEES

AND WHEN THE ROARING OF THE CLANS

DID FINALLY FADE AND DIE

THE OLDEST OF THE ATHLETES

DID HOLD THEIR ARMS UP HIGH !!!

Were they still clutching their kilts when they "did hold their arms up high!!!"?

Results for these games are up. I'm missing the Masters WOB results. When I get them I'll add them in.
I vote for better last place trophies!!
