A little background on me. I began training in the gym like most kids in the 80's did because they saw ARNOLD and wanted to be like him. After realizing this wasn't going to happen because....well...I'm a natural fatty I took up powerlifting I did that for a few years and competed locally (state level). Gave up the weights altogether and pursued Judo for a couple of years loved that it just won't fit into my schedule anymore. So I decided to get back at the weights about a year ago and have been doing that off and on (more off than on).. Until recently, that's when I went to a cultural festival at a local college and they had amongst other things a Highland games demonstration. So I went and check it out. Being around the strength sports for sometime I had heard about the Highland games but never really thought about doing them. I spoke to a couple of the gentlemen that were doing the demonstrations and they were very forthcoming with upcoming events and what each event was. They even game me a chance to throw the Open and Braemer stone. I was hooked immediately. I went home and began googling Highland games and watching videos on Youtube. A few weeks later I bought a 34.5 lb stone and a 22 pound stone. I have yet to figure out a way to get a small tree in my backyard. I hope to learn alot here and meet some new friends

Go to the Thistle...a GREAT place to start. Great memories, environment, throwers, and coaching. I had a really great experience there (minus the sheep on the cliff thing the Okies wanted as the 10th event....I lost) and recommend it to anyone! |
