i just finished a traithlon career, ending in IRONMAN 140.6, and am now going to take on the highland games.

my history in athletics is simple--- skydiving (professional) runner (accomplished) weight lifiting (amateur) triathlete (accomplished) race car driver (professional) and NOW--- highlaqnd games---

highland games and throwing have caught my eye and I want to learn..

That makes me new, moldable, and willing to suffer

I am not scottish that I know of, but I do not know that I am NOT scottish either.  LOL!

That is all

ok.....want some good advice?.......lose the totally macho extremely edgy caffienated attitude thing. While we are as intense as is possible when we're behind a trig , the rest of the time we tease each other mercilessly and have comfortable gruff male time while showing off to the females in the crowd while honoring our Scottish heritage by wearing the tartan kilt of your clan - NOT a utilikilt if at all possible. (women looove kilts) BUT , we are very inclusive - some of our members are down right scary and go away often , others are preachers , some care wwaaay too much about the deadlift , a few stick needles in their asses(it's frowned upon , but we've all seen roided up BIG guys land on their asses with the 56 so usually it doesn't help if you can't throw with proper technique), a very very few who are good enough to throw for $$$ , virtually no a$$holes - we have a very strong NO A$$HOLE rule that must be obeyed(I'm NOT calling you an a$$hole - it's true- ask anybody). Buy the training videos sold here and make some cheap implements and start wearing them out following the videos advice and repost with a respectful , fun attitude and we'll get you started. It really is a challenging sport and you'll enjoy tossing your first caber as much as any title.  Good luck ! Mike

You might check in with the guys and gals in the Southeast as there might be some throwers right in your area.

OK- I will check in with the Southeast......

I tried contacting the Director of the Dunedin, FL Highalnd games for 2009 and have received no response as of yet.

I have been throwing everything from concrete chunks, to pipes with concrete chunks on the ends (fence posts) and today really got wicked crazee with some 4 X 6 baords....

I need a tire, a caber, adn a 100 pound stone.  I want to participate in te 100 pond stone throw too.

I resally like how the e4xplosive upper lats, all the way down to a calve explosion is required to launch something.

I realize my terms are not good, but I am trying.
