Just got my first pair of hammer boots, courtesy of Mike Smith -- awesome boots, Mike!  Just one question:

Now what?!?

Can some of you guys pass along your stories and experiences making the transition to blades?

Thanks to all (and especially to Mike for a first rate pair of boots!).

I'm in the same boat.I've had my blades for almost a month and haven't had time or space for throwing in them.I've done some winds in them, but haven't actually thrown yet.Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Mike and Bill - use boots to get a firm base to get wild w/ the hammer. They're not gonna help you "lean back" or make you a better thrower right away.. They help you make bigger faster circles without your feet coming off the ground. Go out, put your boots on , dig in , and go a little crazy- be bigger, faster and wilder with no fear of feet lifting or falling down. Remember, a great hammer thrower is good with or without boots - the converse is true also - get some serious technique help from someone good . THEN the boots will help greatly.

Thanks for the advice.I actually got to try them out today.I gotta say that the hammer didn't fly any farther, but I wasn't going full steam either.I'll give it a few more times before I try to crank it.The blades feel a little funny right now.I can see how it keeps you grounded.I love new toys!

I also appreciate it, Im trying blades ($30 Hobson Flexible Flyers) for the first time tomorrow morning when no one can see me except the dog walkers  and perhaps the groundskeepers when they pick me up off the ground.

I think it's one of those trust issues. You know, like when you're supposed to fall back into someones arms.Only I know there's noone there.
