do any of you guys going 110/130+ stagger your feet in the hammer?
I staggered my feet slightly today (left about 6" in front of right) on the sheaf and the block was much stronger.. so that made me wonder about the hammer as well
also, what are some of your "tricks" to get your right foot to pivot enough to drive your hip through it's low point to accellerate the ball?
thanks fellas

Hey Jake
How did that left foot forward block transfer to sheaf height. Could you tell a difference? |

lol, I wondered how long before someone asked that. I had to really think about it. I'm not a physics or biomechanical guy so here's my dumb answer:
With my left staggered forward, I can drive my right leg (and bag) into my left side. From there, the left leg block not only lifts the bag, but also pushes my left hip backwards (not to the right side). That slingshots the bag behind me as well as up.
I've got no idea how accurate that is, but that's my only reasoning for whats going on. I thought about it and thought it might be a better idea to stagger my left backwards, but unlike the stone or wfd, I'm not throwing the bag to the left of me for distance, I'm throwing it behind me for height. Putting my left in front of my right seems to get that final push behind me. Which is why I was asking if anybody does that on the hammers. Again, it's not a big stagger, maybe 3-6" or so. I hope I don't sound like a total dumbass, but that's all I've got. lol. |

I've wondered this myself. My feet are parallel to the trig. Would putting your left out in front of your right help with your orbit? Where do your feet set at Duncan?

i used to do it when i threw without blades...it would force my low point more to the rt for the initial winds, which is where i want it to drag it through the finish. i think this is what it creates for you, and might be why you like the feeling...keeps the ball back in the pocket.
i don't do it anymore because it blocks off the finish. i'd say keep 'em even, but reach farther back with the rt elbow on the first wind to get the low point over at 3 o'clock, and just keep it on the right during the throw so you can drag the finish.

Hammers, Left foot in front of right? If anthing right just in front so you can drive your hips up.

Thanks Matt. I played with a lot of different things and found being slightly open with left behind right was beneficial, though by the time I'm really dug in, they're darn near even.
Made lots and lots of changes in the last 3 weeks or so and has yielded big results.
now I just need to go fast.

Looks good i like the height of your first swing then it just flattens of a little and your low point creeps across only a tiny bit.Overall very good keep at it.For me i try keep the low point over my right foot first 2 swings and it makes its own way to the centre.
