Besides Ben, Wout, Matt, Samundur, and Sean has anyone else cleared 18' standing?
Cheers,

Kaz supposedly cleared 18' 3" in Scotland in 1984, but
I've never seen details. Since lower heights were
recognized as the world record after 1984, Kaz's toss
might have been in a strongman comp. On the other hand,
it's almost certainly this mark that Ben Plucknett was
trying to break when he hit 18' 3.5".

Assuming Sean was spinning at McPherson that was a watershed moment. Up until then only four had cleared it standing in an HG comp (Ben, Wout, Matt, and Samundur), and Sean would then be the fourth to clear it spinning (HBIII, Ryan, and West Coast Dave).
Cheers,

Carlos

Sean went 16' standing and then switched to the spin and stopped at 18'.  He very well could have cleared 18'6".
Cheers!

You witnessed an interesting bit of HG history there.

I agree, I see a day in the not to distant future that good throws will have several techniques to draw from, depending on the "field rules"

Let's be clear:  you've got the potential to set a new absolute world record.

There is no doubt in my mind. Steve could be the next member of the 18' and over club. This also means if Steve is going to start really training I'm going to have to kill myself in the off season training trying to keep up with him in every other event

It would be scary if the big santoli did find some time to train.  18' owould be an afterthought.

It would also put the stand throwers back in the lead.
Cheers,

Unlikely. Only the US even acknowledges the technique as acceptable. Everywhere else considers it at best a seperate event and at worst against the rules.

One way or another, 18' is a LONG way up though.

Big Paul needs to speak up. I know he reads this forum.

Incidentally, if I'm not mistaken that 18' toss also gets Sean into the "17 feet both ways" club along with KO.

Now for the meaningless trivia question. How many folks have gone 70' in the shot both spinning and gliding. I'll give you Oldfield and Laut. Who else? Come on Chief, I know you're out there. Don't let Woody beat you to it.

Cheers,

Carlos
