Take an open games w/ 15 competitors - after the throws for braemar are complete assign a number value ( lowest to highest ) according to place. So first in the event would be 1 & last would be 15.

Repeat for each event. Then add each event placing together for each athlete.

lowest total points wins the overall.

If an athlete were to win every event thier total points would only be 8 or 9.

You're dead on!  Place = points (1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2, etc. and the lowest score wins) is almost foolproof.  The first time that l saw it used was the last time that l ever used the old inverted (1st = some arbitrary higher number, i.e. 1st = 5, 2nd = 4, etc. and the highest score wins) scoring system!!
