Just wondering if I could throw in 20's or if the PVC would be too brittle.  Anyone?

If you're refering to your hammer handles, you will be fine.

The handle will be stiffer & the ground will be harder so pay closer attention to "neck", but you should be good to go.

DL,

Dale and I built a standard 25' tall out of PVC to practice Sheaf and WOB last season.  Not fearing the cold I asked to keep it up for the winter.  After a good snow fall of 24" in a two day stretch it was still there.  However I snowshoed out with my sheaf and fork to find only the first 10' standing straight up in the air and the rest somewhere beneath my feet.

So if it be a structure that stays out I would say it would break in the 20's.  If you take it out from a warm environment to throw then bring it back inside you may get away with it.

Well I threw hammer last night in 30's...and they had been in trunk of car for days before.  No snapped handles, but only threw for around 45 minutes or so.

Turns out a nice snow cover really lets you know where your hammer landed.  :^)

Are you using grey or white PVC?

Grey...and my practice set up is the 3/4s (i think).  One diameter bigger than what I have been seeing in competition.  'Cause that is the diameter of the hole in the weight plates I use.
