it looks like you need to use more legs, and you follow through too far. try stopping a little shorter.

I am not a sheaf god so...... Def need to use your legs more. Can try bending slightly as you drive down with a slight weight transfer from right to left as you start your pull up. Need to be more aggressive on your pull up to snap the bag off. When you get a good one you can hear it. Al |

This is what worked for me when I first started in the Games:
1) Think of the upswing like a snatch. That's the explosion you want. Use a grip on the fork that is slightly less than a snatch width. 2) On the down swing to the ground, let gravity do the work, this is not where you want to drive. But you do want to be in a body position to allow you to get the bag as close to ground as you can without touching the ground. 3) Once gravity is done this is where you take over and drive as long as you can, constantly getting faster through the end of the throw. 4) Push with your off arm and like every other event (except caber), make your orbit as big as possible by keeping your arms as straight as you can. Big radius translates to big torque which translates to big energy into the implement. These things by themselves didn't drive my sheaf higher but doing these got me into better positions so that I could get my sheaf higher. This list is not intended as a complete fix, but it should get you headed in the right direction. Once you start doing these things you will figure out little tweaks that work for you and you can move on to more complicated things like actually driving the bag towards the ground then suddenly changing directions. |

Duncan knows little of sheaf...I got lucky one time. Dude, change your shoes! WFH is slides? OMG. Sheaf vid #1 - there is a DEFINITE stutter before you block with your left. You watched the sheaf...don't do this. Let the crowd tell you how you did. When you try to watch the sheaf, the left shoulder begins to pull back behind the hip; this changes the path of the pull and the trajectory of the bag, resulting in the bag landing WAY out to your right instead of straight back behind you. Granted, a straight up and down throw is a rare thing, but that is what we want...looking/watching the sheaf is a surefire way to avoid making big throws. Sheaf vid #2 - Same thing...this time you didn't look at the bag, so you didn't hook it. Sheaf vid #3 - Same thing as #2. You are not making the Nike Swoosh/check mark with the bag. It is almost like you are trying to lift the bag at the end of the cast, and that is causing you to stutter at the end. Sheaf vid #4 - Do this. Lots of times. Sheaf vid #5 - GAH! This was looking good...look at your feet. At the beginning, your left and right are not parallel. This = Gonna hook it. Sheaf vid #6 - Better. See #4. Not a bad effort man. You do a couple of things very well. First, you are not swangin the sheaf around your body during your casts. This is good. Second, you are clearly very strong in your lower back, because you are not really using your legs...this is ok for lower heights, but if you want to throw a bag over anything that starts with 3 you're going to have to use them (see McKim, Dan). Keep working the check mark and get a good hard block with that left arm. STOP looking straight down. Pick a point about 8 feet out in front of you and focus your eyes there...once you get ready to actually pitch the sheaf, you're going to explode up in the air; looking down makes it hard to jump up. Try it. As you are pulling the sheaf up and getting ready to block your eyes should be traveling a straight line UP from the point you were staring at...this gets you in what I like to call "The best position to throw a sheaf bag high" position. Overall, I give you a B+. Lots of good things happening here! |

For the record, i usually don't throw in flip flops. I just wanted to get some quick throws in while my wife was home to video. At least i wasn't wearing socks with them |

Thanks for all the help. I see that in all my events, i don't use my legs enough. This is really bad, because its not like i'm benching, nevermind overheading, 300. I hopefully will get some good numbers this weekend.
