Skipped the gym on Monday because the GF wanted to meet for lunch.  Can't pass that up. I usually work out at lunch because it is just about the only time I can squeeze in a workout.  Then, skipped the gym at lunch again yesterday because work bought lunch and the much-ingrained survival instinct of eating will not allow me to pass on a free lunch.  So, I did what any man would do, I left work early to get in Monday's and Tuesday's workouts.

It went thusly:

SQ
135 x 10
185 x 10
225 x 8
250 x 5 x 5 sets

Pull-ups

BP

Got in some HFD & LWD.  Actually took video of myself for the first time.  Very humbling, but I was able to see a couple of things I am doing wrong...and not many things that I am doing right Embarrassed.

Two important things I noticed were 1) I am not separating the upper body from the hips.  I am twirling like a ballerina.  2) I am throwing off the back (right) foot instead of posting and throwing on the left foot.

While I have always been aware of the 'twirling' issue, and have consistently tried to get this under control, I was really surprised to see what I was doing wrong at the release point (not posting on the left).  Technology.  Who knew?!

PS
The elbow was pretty cranky by the time I got done throwing (10 ea.).  The good news is there is no lingering achiness today.

Bagging on the training for the day.  My back is still a little fried from moving Leslie's mother all day Friday and Saturday.  Didn't get back home Friday night (Saturday morning) until 3:30 a.m.  Then started all over again Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. until about 9:00 that night.

You know the worst part about moving?

Moving.

Because of the two afore-mentioned dumb-@$$ sets, I ran out of time and could not get any assistant work done before I had to get back to work.

Today's workout was less than stellar.  Standing DB press was just not happening, and I don't know why, and there was no excuse.  These have got to get better.  I don't know if Friday's overhead session had any effect, but I am not going to use that as an excuse.  Thinking about eliminating bench and substituting Standing Barbell Press and going with just one upper-body day per week.

Total.  Unmitigated.  Bleh.

Came home after work and threw some LWFD.  I had one of the best practice sessions with this in some time.  I picked up a tip from one of the training logs I troll (for the life of me I cannot recall whose log).  Instead of throwing and measuring each throw, I stuck a flag out a reasonable distance - not too far so as to make every throw a PR effort, and not so close that there was no challenge in making the distance.

My goal was to put as many throws beyond the flag as possible without worrying about the exact distance of each throw.  It was a go/no-go gauge.  I suffer from PBA (paralysis by analysis).  This little trick allowed me to just throw and not analyze every movement and how it may or may not have related to the distance the implement went.

My focus was to work on waiting on the weight, get separation between the hips and shoulders and concentrate on posting and throwing off the left foot.

Very happy with how this went.  The first 9 throws went beyond the flag (gotta move the flag out next session).  Then fouled the next three throws, even though they exceeded the mark/flag as well.  I stopped after the three fouls so as not to ingrain any bad habits.

Then moved on to hammer winds.  Did four sets of 10 winds.  This also went well as this is the first time I have been able to wind while looking straight up and not fall all over the place.  Must be doing something right in the gym.

If the weather doesn't turn crappy like predicted, we'll see if there is some carry-over from tonight to the HWFD on Thursday.

It was driving me nuts that I couldn't remember where the idea to throw beyond a target came from...

It was Duncan McCallum in a response to a newbie who had requested training advice.

Thanks, Duncan! Thumbs Up

Today, I did some HWFD and LH.

Once again, followed the protocol espoused by Duncan McCallum wherein a flag/marker is placed a certain distance from the trig and throws are counted as either beyond the mark or not far enough.  My throws were about 70% beyond the marker, so I think the distance was about right.  More important to me, though, is that I am starting to get the separation between the hips and shoulders.  I am encouraged by that part of the throwing today.  Stumbled around a little bit more than I would have liked.

Followed this with LH winds, 6 sets of 10 winds.
