New to Highland games...I experienced alot of pain in my left shoulder during the hammer events. RH throw. Any advice? I feels like alot of strain is being put on that joint.

When in the movement do you feel the pain? I'm guessing that it's when the hammer head is on the left side of your body.
I'm not a physician, but you might have some of the typical muscle imbalances that people, especially right-handers, seem to have. I'd suggest doing some shoulder external rotation and rows (1-arm especially) for the left shoulder, along with face pulls (cable or stretch band) and pull-aparts (stretch band).
Also, be sure to counter the hammer with your hips while bracing your torso, especially on the left. The arms should stay long; you're not trying to just pull the hammer around with your arms. As a new thrower, you might want to post some video if you can for analysis by some of our resident hammer gurus.

I also have left shoulder pain. I have added rotator cuff exercises to my workouts and have adjusted my bench press to try and not go below paralleland stay high on the chest. I am also avoiding behind the head presses.
