Hey-

I just dropped in to say thanks to the admin and long time regulars here at the NASGA board.

It some times strikes me about how lucky I am and I feel that thanks are in order to some of the people who helped me along the way. Its true that the athletes that I've met right here in this virtual world of NASGA have helped me become a better athlete and I am sincerely thankful to you all.

I've said it before but I've never been very big or very strong, in fact sorta average sized guy, but being a highland games athlete has been a way to get bigger and stronger and maybe - special. After college football, I was a runner and was playing center field on the baseball field. I had some speed and a strong arm but no real focus or drive for strength or power .. until the first caber toss.

I then formed a local club; we gathered equipment; we practiced together; I pestered the NASGA regulars until many of you came to our gatherings and we threw together. Approaching 20 years now since that first caber .. I've put on 30 pounds and compete in both weightlifting and throwing events now with some measure of success - competitions from coast to coast, Canada and Scotland. It's been nothing but fun to me and people often know me as a guy who turns cabers.

Learning from the throwers, coaches and ADs have been a remarkable experience and one that has changed me. I've made many mistakes and have been lucky enough to be forgiven by most of you guys. I've also tried to share what I've learned from you too .. Ancient Athletics have helped many new athletes get started and we've put cabers on the field for many more than I can count.

When the story of my life is told, it will include my time as a Highland Games athlete and that was made possible in significant part to the people that I met right here.

Thanks to Kurt, Craig, Gene, Myles, Don and all the rest for helping me find the power.

You are a classy man, Mr. Kevin Rogers.

I will always owe a debt of gratitude to you, Merle, and the Ancient Athletics crew for taking care of me from many years ago and helping shape my career as a thrower.  If anyone deserves the thanks, it is you, my friend.

Great post Kevin. We are lucky to have this sight, beats the heck out of the old once in while newsletter we used to get at the beginning of NASGA years ago. You and your dad have done great things for the games.

I was just thinking about how Shamrock is on me and I am not able to attend this year and how much that game has given to me.  Thank you for the mention, but really I have taken so much more than given and am appreciative.  I can remember coming up to Shamrock and Craig and I staying at Chad's house after the game and having just a day and night of fun.  That was quite a few days ago.  Thanks for a lot of good times Kevin.

And I sure miss me some Satch also.
