Got board since I can't throw this year and time is limited so went back to the old Bill Starr 5 x 5 stuff.  While looking for the old articles to refresh my memory about it I came across the links below.  I remember some of my friends making very good strength gains with these.  For all the "new" stuff out there it's funny how similar the "old" stuff is, and it's still effective.  There is more than one page to each article, just click "Next Page" at the bottom.

Ya, I know.  I usually do a kind of conjugate approach but sometimes it's fun to do a little linear dual factor training.

Starr's program also lends it's self well to my new set up in my basement.  I scored a squat rack, a bench, a military bench, a bar, a trap bar, collars, a weight tree and 820 pounds of weight all for $120 from my old high school.  They got brand new stuff and just wanted to get rid of the old stuff.  It's good to know the right people sometimes cause obviously they gave me a hell of a deal.  I can't tell you how cool it is to have a gym at my house.   I know I'm kind of a ...

That's an incredible deal.

Then again, ask Dan Wood about the bumper plates sometime...

That Bill Starr artilcle is awesome.  While an Olympic lifter, I trained with Jack King in North Carolina.  Bill and he where friends.  I was managing Jacks Gym at the time and had these principles coached to me personally by Bill when he would visit, many time for weeks at a time.  Great Stuff!

Tim I will pay you twice what you paid..  and we all know that 2 times is plenty..  HAHAHAHA

Anyway I am with you on the training, love the basics..  I do find it so funny that it is the lighter guys who seem to do the most talking about the basic lifts..  I know for me I found out long ago that to many reps with little explosive content was not going to get me better..

You knwo what would be great for you is openning 2006 bringing your great"big" family to Phoenix in February Mama would love the weather and the kids can hangout in the 70-80 degree weather and watch Dad tear it up....

Man, that would be great.  My wife digs the sun too.  The thought of bringing 3, 9 month old babies on a road trip that long is pretty scary.  The only thing more scary than than that is the price tag for the gas, lodging and feeding of seven people.  I don't know Daryl does it.  Any game I do next year will have to be close to home i.e. Kansas or Missouri.  Even then they will be few and far between.  I miss throwin' with everybody so believe me, if I can, I will make it out there.

And for the training, you and I are in agreement.

I will try my best to qualify for teh 190's in KC so we can meet up there..  Now we just need to get Beesch to get off the" I have abs diet " and start throwing and he could make the trip also..

Have you heard if there are going to be guidelines for next years 190 championships..  ??

I would like atleast one more crack at the top guys to see if I have any gas left in the tank..

I don't know of next years guidelines, I've been kind of out of touch.  As far as qualifying for nationals, the way everyone else is throwing and the fact that I haven't touched a weight for so long, I'll be lucky to qualify myself.

Oh, and tell Beesch that he ain't that pretty anyway so he can just give it up.

Man, I love old school training.  I haven't yet got those Dinosaur Training books, but I really want to.  Those old timers were not only big, but strong and functionally strong as well.  And without the dope.  Man if they'd had even used a little bit of stuff back in the day they would've been off the charts.
