I forgot to mention:
When the last time many of these gentleman got together, the pillars of this division were shaken! At Utah Scottish Festival & Highland Games in Lehi, UT, on 6/13, three world records for this division fell: Scott Farr in Braemar Stone 38’ 8” (22 lbs) Scott Farr in Open Stone 49’ 5” (16 lbs) Phil Sansotta & Scott Farr in standing WFH 18'6" And one other almost fell as John Odden was 1.5" short of the LWFD record which has been standing since 1999. |

For a variety of reasons, we choose to run the Nationals as a U200 competition. The biggest reason among many is that the LW Worlds will be over seas. Our understanding is that LW Worlds will only be taking a limited number of US throwers.
Our responsibility in running this Championship is to promote the division. Leaving so many out of having a shot at competing at a high level competition went contrary to that mission. I hope that was the info you are looking for. |

Starting with this championship I believe the move has finally been made across the board to move the weight up to <200 where many felt it should be all along.
The division has increased exponentially since the time Greg Bradshaw created it to allow teens and lighter guys a chance to compete. The need to move the weight to something more reasonable, recognizable has been there for many years, but now with the World championship taking off as it is, combined with the sheer numbers competing now, the increase in level of competition its time to make the change. So I guess from now on the term is simply "Lightweights" and it will be known as <200, but the < 190 records and championships will be preserved history wise.
