In my 18yrs of observation, I've found that if you're really strong and don't move like it causes you the Brain Pain, you throw pretty FFFFFing well, even with less than optimal technique.
I'm lookin at you, Smith. |

In general I have noticed that people who are really strong when they begin the highland games are better at the Heavy of each event. Whereas those with a technique-based skill set, but are not as strong, will have better Light events, relative to others.
Where and when might results of this survey to be posted? |

And then there is Dave Barron who can throw anything of any weight but feels that strength training includes walking barefoot and doing cartwheels.

That, I suspect, is a function of being born with a lot of fast twitch fibres. Same reason Matso and Doherty can train weights at 60% in-season and still throw far. Meanwhile, most athletes I've paid attention to tend to crater if they do that in-season. The training logs are very insightful for that.
