INTERNATIONAL CALL UP FOR INVERNESS HIGHLAND GAMES CHAMPION Inverness Highland Games Champion Sinclair Patience has achieved a boyhood dream to follow in his father's sporting footsteps following the announcement that he has been selected to represent Scotland at next weekend's International Athletics Meeting in Loughborough on Sunday May 22nd. Sinclair's father former World Highland Games Heavy Events Champion George Patience represented Scotland in the Commonwealth Games staged in Edinburgh in 1986; the year that Sinclair was born. Although Sinclair primarily trains to compete in Heavy Events on the International Highland Games circuit; his international call up follows outstanding performances on the athletics field in recent weeks, in an event that is one of the former Scottish Schools champion's strongest. Sinclair is relishing the opportunity to follow in his father's footsteps and compete on the big stage and said, “I have had a very good winter in the gym and I am coming into this season feeling very strong. It has always been an ambition of mine to compete for my country and I am looking forward to traveling south and taking in the experience. It is great to follow in the footsteps of my father who has given me tremendous support and encouragement throughout my sporting career so far. From rugby to athletics to Highland Games he will always offer advice and wisdom when it comes to training and competing. Now that I’m a little older, I appreciate and value his advice more than ever before, although he will be the first to admit that hasn’t always been the case.” Following the competition in Loughborough, Sinclair will resume Highland Games duties which will see him compete every weekend from now until the end of September. This will of course include the Inverness Highland Games on Saturday 16th of July, which Sinclair has won the last 5 years in a row; and the World Championships which will be staged in Halkirk the following weekend. Sinclair added “The Inverness and Halkirk Highland Games are most definitely two of my favourites. It’s always great to compete in front of large passionate crowds and the atmosphere they create is seldom matched.”
City of Inverness (Scotland) Highland Games Secretary July 1999 - present.
