I know the great one has commented on this in the past and I concur with his rational. Traveling to games, hotel, gas money, airfare is expensive. I have paid out the wazoo to travel and compete in the beginning of my career to get my name out there and get bigger invites. Not many games give travel money to amtrs (&women) as basically amtrs. Terri wwas(is) in the same boat when she started. Found out about big games registered, flew, drove, stayed in hotels and threw all around North America by paying for her travels. My point is we all make sacrifices to travel and throw I just think it's wrong(and a bit cheesy to set up a GOFUND me page) to go to the public to solicit money for your travels because you say games are requesting you! Our fringe sport is basically a glorified hobby for 99% of us(except the pros who are making some money). Isn't that what you ask sponsors to do? Write letters to potential sponsors and ask for help. I know some pros and amtrs do this. Just think it's tacky forming a gofundpage for your hobby

I think it's absolutely ridiculous...

But with that said, I think those people just put it out there to let others' sense of kindness do what they want.

I'd rather see an athlete selling shirts, doing clinics, selling programming, etc. But that's a double edge sword as well because then you'll have other people who will say they aren't doing anything for the sport that doesn't benefit their own pocket.

As you noted, I have commented in the past.  I still hate it and find it completely absurd for an adult to beg for money for a hobby.

Ahahahahaha! Someone tried a gofundme for playing HG? Seriously?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAA! I've already got one. It's called "a job". They should look into it. Shockingly, it might still give them money when they retire too.

There have been a handful over the years, but I just saw one (female) the other day pop up on my feed. Assuming that's who you're referring to?

Yes. She's a talented thrower but claiming that she's being invited to a ton of games(where travel is needed) so now she wants people to fund her hobby. Make a budget(your own funds) and plan on doing a couple important games. When me and my wife were doing 15-20 games a year with half being weekend trips just meant I had to do more OT(meaning lock up more savages in the south bronx) or a second job

I really don't have a problem with it.  If family and friends would like to help support you, then why not let them.

With that said, I think it makes more sense to do "individual sponsorships" where a tshirt or some sort of swag is provided for the donation.

On the other hand, if games are "requesting" you, then hit them up for some travel reimbursement, or a travel scholarship.  Seems like they would be willing if they are particularly interested in having you.

I am with you, this is ridiculous.  Pay your own damn way or get a 2nd job or something.  I joked about a Go fund me for Iceland and it was pure joke.

It also gets me that this thrower isn't even in the top 25 in their class and asking.

I personally wouldn't set up a fund page for the games.

I also wouldn't get so offended at someone else for doing it that I would start a Nasga thread to blast them.

Who cares...

I need to come into a large sum of money so I can bust that out during the caber. This is the stuff Masters is made of.

She is in the top 25 in women. I would not set up a go fund me page for myself either, but hey, it seems to be working for her.

+1 Nathan and Carlos.

If you don't like it, don't contribute to it. It is really that simple.

Now I am seeing debating on if she is worthy of asking for the money. What the hell is wrong with you guys? Don't you all have more important stuff to annoy you?

Never debated her being worthy. I stated she's a talented newcomer. Yes won't contribute as. I think it's a bit tacky. IMO
