A simple observation:  most HG athletes don't need to gain weight.

Besides that, I'm not a big proponent of weight gainer powders.  It would be a lot cheaper to add 2 parts of maltodextrin to one part of your favorite protein powder.  If that sounds like it would taste awful, then you're getting the right picture of weight gainers.  I doubt that the mixture of so-called simple, medium-chain, and complex glucose polymers in this product end up producing anything but a very high insulin index.  To avoid this, you must add fat (which weight gainers assiduously avoid doing).

You could just eat more food.

You seem to be under analyzing....first,most does not mean all..

Unfortunately I have to work so I can't simply sit down and eat

a full meal "most" of the time...

As for fats this contains 42 grams of MCT's...

Medium Chain Triglycerides-These "fats" are used by the body differently than the most abundant fats, long chain triglycerides.MCT's are an easily absorbed energy source that do not appear to cause weight gain.MCT's commonly used for people with malabsorption as they do not require bile acids and pancreatic enzymes to be absorbed and utilized..

Some of the other ingredients are-Yohimbe Bark-Sikadeer Antler Powder-Schizandra Chinesis-Eleutherococcus-Inosine HXR-Colostrum-Boron-Chromium Picolinate-along with BCAA's....and more vitamin and minerals than you would think...No Preservatives-and-No Artificial Sweetners...

I research before I put it into my body..

Be a little open minded...this stuff has been around for a long time..no flash-just good results...

I'm not trying to start and I apologize ahead of time if it came across that way...

I do have an idea about what I'm talking about...

milk honey and squats!!!!!!!!
these are the keys to training from the strongest man of all time.
The one the only Paul Anderson
No steroids No super protiencreitentrsobotesn or shredded yak dong!

"Paul combined short, intense workouts throughout the day, with periods of rest," Strossen writes. For example, he would do 10 reps in the squat with 600, rest for about 30 minutes, and then do a second set of 10. After another 30 minutes rest, he would increase the weight to 825 and do three reps, rest again and do two more reps with 845. Then he would rest again and conclude by doing half squats with 1200 for 2 or 3 reps and quarter squats with 1800. The whole routine took three hours or more. He would sip milk during the rest periods, consuming a gallon or more throughout the course of the day.

I actually have never heard of or used this Russian Bear 5000 so I can not say whether it is good or bad but the recent comments about Saxon(a different thread) and Anderson have got me thinking.  There are two things that I feel need to be mentioned when one wants to say, "These guys were great back then and this is what they did, so this is what we should do."

1) These men were great to begin with, from birth.  A sort of human anomaly.  If we are honest with ourselves we'd have to admit that these guys could have trained with almost any set/rep skeem and eaten fermented goats blood and they probably still would have been pretty great.  I am not saying that they didn't work hard or that todays methods are better than what they used I'm just saying that taking what worked for a few and trying to apply it to the masses has never been a good equation to success.  That leads me to my next point.

2) These men were incredibly smart and way ahead of their time.  Saxon's way of training or Paul's way of eating were just fine for them and at that time was the best there was to offer.  You have to think though that because these guys were so smart that they would have a hard time turning away from the advances in nutrition and training that have come along.

There is a lot of bullshit diets, products and programs floating around right now but these two (along with the other greats) would have been able to sift through it to find what works and use it.  I think that we too should be able to do that.  We can't afford to close our eyes or our minds to today's advances. I don't think that the "greats" would have done that.  Likewise, we should (like Saxon and Anderson) be able to separate the good from the bad so as to maximize our training efforts.

The feats that these men accomplished under their circumstances is nothing short of amazing but they were great due to their ability to take what they had and work with it.  I would like to think that if they had the advantages that we have today they would not turn a cheek but would instead study them and look for a way to even further enhance their training by using the good advances while discarding the bad.

(Disclaimer: the comments made by this man in no way advocate or disprove of the use of the Russian Bear 5000.  This is only a post that got way off the subject.)

That is absolutely the first time anyone accused me of that.

I might be able to get a molecular biologist and one or two of the most qualified sports nutritionists in the world to comment on this stuff, but would be astonished if their take was any different than mine.

kilted russian66: I have clinical experience using MCT's in people with severe pancreatic/small bowel disorders.  They work great in these populations, but only in the absence of liver disease.  Many limited studies have been done trying to create a role for them in Atkins-type diets and body-builder regimens.  None of these have yielded definitive results.

well, with regards to shredded Yak dong you have to go to the expert of anything dong related which would be Dave Barron.  I am sure he can tell you the proper avenue to pursue when attempting to extract the most out of the yak dong, I am sure an oral type of ingestion or attempt at absorption thru the salivary glands.......................................

the rest is just to easy.   I Apologize in advance.

Donate lately?

Maybe the "lack" of Joe Wedier types with "expert advice" and supplements let Anderson and Saxon become the great athletes. Maybe if they had been born today they would have been influenced by the plethora worthless crap that is the main stream sport industry. Alternatively, maybe Paul would have been able to squat 1500lbs and crush us all. We will never know I’m not off topic am I Oh ya I got some fresh Yak dong only 19$ an ounce !!!!! had to follow the Yak around with a baggy mann

G-man,that is classic. You ought to make t-shirts.I lost it,thank you. But,that Russian stuff is not bad.It does help as a meal replacement instead of eating 5 or 6 times a day, which I usually do.Don't get me wrong,I still consume ALOT of milk, but sometimes when it gets really hectic,I'll drink stuff like that Russian Bear. It's better than grabbing a greasy burger all the time.
