So I'm not sure why I'm embarassed to ask this but I got some new cabers and I was wonder how people weigh them. I've stood them up on a bathroom scale, but it just doesn't seem accurate. The only other way that I can think is to hang the caber from two points and put it on a fish scale or something like that. Any ideas or is this the process?

I use a jackstand on a bathroom scale (obviously adjusting scale for jackstand) this way I get both the weight and balance point. I usually have scale on a plank between the sawhorse which are supporting the caber as I am (skinning, sanding, coating, or so how working the caber). Make it table height and easy to get all measurments for Bradshaw's caber formula. |

At the Claw, we just LAY each caber on a bathroom scale to get the weight and then balance it on a sawhorse to find its balance point. l was told "This ain't rocket surgery!"

If you are close to a truck stop they have scales. No fancy rigging needed. |

Just stand it on end on a bathroom scale. This is hardly rocket surgery.

Just lay it on the scale. That works just as well.

Do you guys have a preference when it comes to scales? Would you believe i have a tough time finding scales and even when I do, they somehow become incredibly inaccurate after I step on them a few times. |

l would suggest that you're buying cheap scales. You can still make them work, just use your 56D to recalibrate the scale each time.

I think the problem is that mouth breather here would need to hold onto the caber to weigh it. Without his fingers to count (which would be occupied), how would Wade be able to deal with the numbers on the scale? My guess would be by drooling, but who knows? |

I can recommend you use the bathroom scale. You can check its accuracy by weighing items of known weight, like dumbells and weights you use on your bar. Borrowing another scale for a cross reference. Finally weigh the caber several times with you holding it at the balance point, then subtract your average weight from three measurements. Remember, as your caber dries it will lose mass. This depends on storage conditions, but even a caber left outside will tend to dry out as long as you keep it off the ground. I keep my cabers in the garage.

Go visit any farmer, stand on his balance for weighing sacks of grain, weigh yourself, put the caber on your shoulder and step on the scales again and weigh yourself, subtract one weight from the other and there you have it - the weight of the caber.

Bring it to the greyhound bus station, and use the baggage scale or contact your City, Town or Village weights and measures office. For a small fee they will state certify your weights, and put an official W&M seal on your implements, they did not charge me when I had it dun when ESPN came out to the Wisconsin Games.
