Hey Mike, even the East Germans used to include strict behind neck presses in their programs during the first few months of the off-season, after benching of course.  But in general you are obviously correct, especially with respect to them being a primary movement.  I personally like the dumbell version, when I bother to include them.

Push presses are a very different lift than a strict military press, and a very useful lift for throwers.  Push presses (or jerks) done behind the neck are even better, if your shoulders can handle them, or you are willing to do a bunch of singles.  More power and a better line than from the front, but potentially very hard on the shoulders.  Caution advised.

Video of Reese Hoffa doing seated Behind Neck Presses, narrated by his coach, Don Babbit.  I have no idea what time of year this was, what he did before this, or how often he includes some type of shoulder press in his workouts.

Another question...

Does it overly matter what squat we're doing?  It seems front squat is preferred for throwers over the back squat.  I've found to favor the zercher squat over the other two.  Since we're technically strengthening the same muscle groups, is it feasible to spend more time on one type of squat than another?

This is the final segment of the Werner Gunthor training tape (the first three segments were posted above).  This one includes footage of Gunthor doing overheads with the shot and well as underhand heaves (he was probably among the top 3 athletes in the world at both of these).

The video also includes footage of him performing the Continuous Clean and Press, which he noted in his interview in the "Remarks of Shot Put Champions" article (posted in the Articles section).  I know a few people were a bit uncertain exactly how that lift was performed.

I have posted a written translation of the commentary heard on the Guntor training videos in the Articles Forum, along with each of the video segments.  This should significantly increase the usefulness of these videos for those who do not understand French.
