I came across this tape yesterday and would like to show you what it was like nearly 20 years ago. You think The Highlander Challenge is a new format? lol.

Ahh the old boys in action. great to see, who was that little guy that rushed the sheaf, he must have been in a hurry to get out of there with all those big guys around.... good stuff, timeless.

I looked up the word 'beast' in the dictionary and saw Paul Ferency's picture next to it.

That was another beauty clip, Alister.

Did I hear the narrator correctly?:  "Scotland's best hope is Alister Gunn.  He's a relative weakling..." what a thing to say  Giant killer is more like it!

Good one Alister!

That is a great video.  I got involved in HG in 94 and these where the guys I looked up to.

First, Ali, you are exactly right, Highlander is NOT new and that is why I'm involved in it.  It mixes the best sport in strength (HG with the second best sport in strength (strongman) and I have been running a "highlander" event since 1999 here but never called it that until this year.  I based my event on my love for the stuff in that video and from that era.

Second, did everyone notice the SHEAF TOSS, did Doria notice that!  And that it was the deciding event!  And the Chant goes up, SHEAF*SHEAF*SHEAF

Since it says that this was the HG World Championships, I'm wondering if only the traditional HG events counted towards scoring for the World Championships and the rest were scored separately???

Still can`t believe I mucked up the sheaf my fav event at that time, douggie only allowed us 2 throws for some reason.

Did you see all those Familiar Faces at the event there must of been 20 people throwing I think we had 2 throwing groups.

Farmers Walk!  that was a laugh I ran round the ring when the rest of the guys walked and bet most of the strongmen then Mcgoldrick who was after me ran with them also, as he came to my marker  he dropped them thinking he had bet me but they measured the back of the cylinders, losing by a foot, by this time i was lying under a trailer gasping for breath cos I had run so fast with them cos i new my grip would go first, I thought i was dying, then Jon pal goes past us by 100ft and starts chatting to the crowd still holding the cylinders then carries on round again haha.

Happy days then, good laugh to be around Jon Pal he was sooo funny
