I was keeping a log at another site, but no one goes there anymore. After I started posting my stuff to the interwebz, this thing happened. I had to get one more rep, or make a new gain.
I always start with simple stuff, then my accessory work is an amalgamation of things I've seen from coach youtube that looks beneficial/challenging, but mostly fun.
Last nite,
DL, 95,135,185,225 x5 add 64lbs chains, hop on a plate 263x5, 280 x5, 298 x8
lite hammer winds 5 each side chins 5x5
FS 95,135,185,225,275,300 x1
cardio 2xbw DL, 5 chins, bw OH x5, bw FS x5 all that x2 supersetted.
I weigh 190.
All comments and info greatly appreciated, thanks for having me. I'll try to post vids when I can......or at least when the guys at my gym can understand complex machinery.

for you...... the windmill, epic win. think WFD..... cup the ball in your hand/wrist, one spin.....release parallel to ground, severe smashing in your future. I'll get you a demo vid in a week.
oh.....and a team that throws together, wins together.

so good.
Next tip is this, take charge and count off. Like this, once you're in an offensive position (more balls than other team), get your teammates calm, then call out a number, they should all then look at the other team and count from left to right. If you call 3....then everyone throws at the 3man, even if that dude moves after you call 3, he's still getting the smash. Once you do this a few times, it'll get obvious, so just try and keep the number calling to your team.
Makes senses?

a ball! Well okay a guy your size maybe not but you can
still try.

More to follow, next time I play....I'll pay attention to some things.
Gym Tonite, I've had a cold the last few days. Finally felt better around 5, so thought I 'd go get something in.....until it caught up with me. That plus, I train with the same guys every Tuesday and Friday, we never miss. Even if its just to come spot, cause good spots get important sometimes.
Box Squats 95,135,185,225 x5 Add 40lbs of swinging kettle bells via mini bands (koji style). 225x5x2, 275x5x2
love those, sometimes its 275lbs, sometimes its 350lbs, all in the same movement, core strength ftw.
Incline bench with 2" bar 95,135,155,175,195,215,235x5, 255x3
Started to snatch, got real tired, real quick, next time.

played soccer tonite in an organized league with an almost legit
team. I'm gonna do this for 8 weeks and call it cardio. I've never
played ever. It's this new thing I'm trying to do more of, getting into
an uncomfortable setting and making it rock.
Figured a few things out.
@32, I feel faster than ever.
Running still sucks.
I'm good at knocking people over.

Snatchers 95,105,115,125,135,145,155,165,175x1
Chins, 5x5 mixed up in there somewhere. This looks much more structured than it does real life.
Jammer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD_EN7sWd-o - Vid, I'll work on my technology, and apologies for the length. I read somewhere on here to take the drop and catch out because you dont want to train yourself to dip after a pull.....I like that idea, so I'm rollin' with it.
Plus my real snatch form isnt real awesome anyway.
I drink coffee when I train, but to get to sleep, I always drink a beer afterwards. Tonite is Genny Cream Ale tall boy.

Most misses aren't problems with timing, they're problems with surface choice. Think big body parts and contact area. Inside of foot instead of laces, thigh instead of foot, chest instead of head. Always try to figure out what is the biggest part of you that you can use to contact the round thing. I don't know your experience before but avoid one touch balls, ESPECIALLY indoors. Always try to touch it two or even three times. As you become more comfortable one touch is more acceptable and nothing to me is more artistic than a string of one touch passes between players, but it takes years of practice.
Also think about getting it to a person wearing the same color shirt as you as opposed to killing it. In the end that's what wins matches.

missed Friday session, threw lots over the weekend.
Open Stones, most around 35. Hit a 36+ with my 15lber, all with horrible form also.
LH, third time this year with this. No tacky, first session out grouped at 72, second grouped at 75, went 2" short of 80' today. Feeling good.
LWFD. Turns were slower than my old dog. So I brought out this old 22lb guy I used to practice with. 5 throws with that......lotsa speed. Then back to the 28....all that speed was right back to where it used to be. 45-50's.
HWFD. Hitting the right spots, feels good....but the distance isnt there yet. Not worried, it'll happen. 30-31's.
Set some new goals, all attainable. I've had no problems putting my time in at the gym, but admittedly have limited throwing time in. I read a book a few years back in regards to the 10,000 hour rule. I'll probably never throw that much, but you get the point. Its all about putting the time in.
http://www.gladwell.com/outliers/outliers_excerpt1.html - malcolm gladwell
Also, since the weather is breaking.....and soccer/dodgeball season is almost over. I think I'm going to go from 2 to 3 days in the gym, in 3 different gyms, and throw twice a week.

played soccer tonite. I quit the league, but the team I started went another session. Their goalie couldnt make it, so they recruited me back for a double header.
First game, we won, I allowed 2. Killed it. Second game, same thing in the first half. Then I felt like my team got confident with me back there or something, cause there were a load of 1 on 1's. All quick ass little hi school kids. I got drilled a bunch, off the chest, everywhere. Until I took one from about 10 feet away in the face. I knew I was going to have a nosebleed so I just took my shirt off so I wouldnt bleed all over it and starting walking off. Pretty sure their usually goalie wouldve been uber pissed. I really dont even care, if anything I just proved to myself that I can pretty much take the physical abuse and shrug it off. The other team was asking if I was "on the juice" as the youngsters were calling it. Obviously not, but I'll take it as a compliment.
Oh yah, and I threw 7 PR's on Saturday. Its amaxing what an 18 month off season at the right gym can do for a fella.

Thanks.
nope, this is actually my second real season throwing, so I dont think I was on the radar for invites. I cant really count the one games I did last year because I was out for a good long while with an achilles tear. Hoping this years numbers will get me my invite to next years LW gig.
I've got lots more work to do in the gym, and even more to get that strength and speed to carry over to throwing. You're throws are looking real solid, especially those hammers, like whoa. I'm sure we'll see each other sooner than later.

I only threw as LW once last year and it wasn't put on NASGA. But I managed to grab one of two open slots in KC this year.
This is my second season also. My offseason was bad in terms on lifting due to a groin injury but my throws improved big time. I think you need a certain level of strength, some events more than others.. .but nothing beats throwing to get better at throwing. My hammers sucked last year and over the offseason I probably did hammer 3-4x per week. Now I need to bring up the other events...

yah, I gotta get my HWFD nailed down. I'm consistently 3' short of last years average. Need to be more like 36ish to get the points I want. That.....and just do what I do in practice with the sheaf in an actual games.
Good Luck in KC.
tonite.
Box Squats for speed 45,135,225x5, 315x5x3
Incline Press 135x5x2, 190x5x5
Snatch 95 t0 165 by 5lb increments via 1 rep
lotsa stretching, lotsa mini band pull aparts
besides a 70mile canoe race, my next games/strongman isnt until June 25th, gonna try and fit a nice cycle of some weirdo 5/3/1 stuff in there. One PL movement, One Strongman, One OLY movement per workout.

disappointment. hit 365 for 4.... 6 weeks ago. however, i've been throwing lots and hitting a few weddings, so it makes sense.
yolk, all for 120' 292, 392, 452, 502. only the third or fourth time doing this, happy with the 502 for that distance with no drops.
overhead medley 100db,100keg,200axle,200 log that medley for 3 rounds thinking about taking it a little slower on the first 3, so I have some in the tank for reps with the log.
axle deadlift 318,382,432x1 the bar was there from the overhead stuff, so why not. looking for 450 when fresh.....feel pretty positive i could get that. for the the deadlifting i've done in my strength travels, its still a crappy lift for me.

makes me appreciate throwing a bunch, blister on my left hand and a bruised ass. The only thing that would make me a better rower is more endurance, its not a very technical sport and I'm pretty sure I learned everything I need to know about 7 years ago. There's so many things to learn about throwing.....pretty much the main reason I'm much more focused on it this year.
The rowing community is a bunch of fun ass drunken Irish folks though, I'll miss traveling with them.

i've never done these, but there's a xfit comp thing going on and I just needed to make sure those guys werent stronger than me.

did a strongman show yesterday, it was kinda humbling. I didnt realize until I got there that almost everyone in my class had cut weight and weighed in the day before. Me.....I was 6lbs under. Also, it was the first time I felt older in my field.
Despite that, I still tried to put in a decent first showing for an NAS event. Nothing felt too heavy, I was comfy with everything, but most competitors were able to move the implements faster, which ultimately sucked for me. Didnt stick around to see where I finished, probably somewhere in the middle.
To be really competitive I'd probably have to gain some weight and give up my throwing time to work with those implements. I like throwing way too much for that, so....Imma gunna stick to it.
Ultimately I got out of it what I needed, some motivation to keep moving towards stronger and faster. That was worth the drive itself.

would love to, but I've got a wedding. I'll make that one next year. Loose schedule goes NoHo>Quechee>Capital Region>Pipes>Scotland, CT>OBX
I'd like to get a full strongman in there somewhere to redeem myself now that I'd be comfortable with it. The fella that owns my gym ok'd me to throw an event there, and its large enough to do 100' FW or Tires.....so we're thinking something small over holiday time. Plus I'd also like to do an old school weightlifting competition. Like a full PL and OLY meet, plus all those old movements that dont any attention anymore, there's a great thread in here somewhere about it.......I'll try to find it.

snatch 100x1x20 squat clean 95x5x3 overhead squat 95x3x5 chins 5x5 shoulder horn 26x5x5
I've decided that my OLY form is laughable, so I'm starting over. It sucks, but I'm positive will pay dividends in the long run. I can only fake it by muscling shit up so long. Plus the flexibility thing.
Better get used to lighter stuff faster as well, Power Factor starts next Tuesday, right after Glasgowlands.
Training with these PL guys that live and die by the singles, doubles and triples is going to be kinda tough, but I'm sure I'll find some new goals to shoot for soon enough.
I also just came home to garbage everywhere, my dog is a f**king dickhead.

Threw yesterday at Glasgowlands.
1' PR in the Open Stone. Up to 37'4" now. I've got some games coming up with some sweet stones, I want more.
3 good rips at 14' weight over bar. I love hearing "you had the height", must be the most over used phrase at games. Power Factor starts this week, pretty sure that plus some speedy banded deads will get me there.
80 or so on a caber that I think I turned last year. Too much running, not enough pulling.
Weights.....embarrassingly bad. So I went out and threw some LW today. Felt great. I think its in my head, and thats a weird spot to hang out.
Great folks, beauty of a day plus Markx2 provided some great comic relief....as always. Also met some real cool fellas from out of town, hopefully we'll catch up again in the fall when I get down there.
One day of training this week, gonna try to start throwing more with a purpose instead of just whipping crap around. Strongman next Sat at Harpoon Brewery.

You're doing very well, and tied for third in a field with
3 of the top 6 LW in the country. (In a tie-breaker, you'd
have gotten third based on your caber.)
You are already strong enough to excel as a LW (including
15'+ in WOB). You just need lots of throwing reps.

Thanks Hapy and Wayne. I'm starting to grow some confidence with everything, comfort is key. Got some great feedback from Craig a few weeks back on a training vid....that bit of info goes a long ways.
As far as the reps......cant agree more, there's a great book I've referenced before in regards to putting the time in and why certain folks become successful. 10,000 hour rule type stuff. I think it translates to any and everything.

Ah, yes, that's Tommy Benson, from Chicopee, MA. He's a
great guy. I believe he's almost 66 years old now. If he
practiced (which he doesn't), he would blow people away
with what he could do. As it is, he just loves to get out
once in a great while and have fun. After he turned that
long caber (19'6"), I was surprised he didn't do one of his
famous cartwheels. The last time he threw at Glasgow
Lands, in 2006, he brought so much joy to the other
athletes and spectators that I named him Athlete of the

Harpoon Strongman on Saturday Wasnt really a competition as much as an exhibition, had a great time with. Did exactly what I wanted, get a great workout in and do some things I wouldnt normally be able to push myself to do it training. Got to talk throwing a bunch with Hapy, great insight. Here's the events stolen form his log.
1st event press medly - 115lb atlas stone, 200lb cement
sono tube, 200lb barbell, 100lb dumbells x2
2nd event - carry/drag medley - 300+ Duckwalk, 400lb Farmer's walk,
and 400+ sled drag - about 30 ft each
3rd event - deadlfit for reps. Setup was a bar with tires at 15" - 410lb on
the bar, with addition of 120lb of chains. Estimate was 450lb on the
ground, and 530lb at top.
4th event - load medley, 200lb sono tube, 211lb atlas stone, 250lb keg,
and 275lb concrete pill
I love overhead pressing, always have and always will. Duck walk should be renamed "creates massive bruising" I broke some stuff. Shoulda used straps for the DL and I would've gotten a few more. And with a little encouragement from Currier and Harvey, I did load that 275lb pill looking stone thing at the end. Last competitor in the last event and I had the crowd cheering me on for the last lift and I got it.
 maybe video later.
