Hey-

I've been throwing heavy for about 10 years now and have just noticed something... (yeah, ... I know ... besides that I'm not getting any better). The range of motion in my right arm is approximately 5 degrees less than my left. I cannot extend my right arm fully. What I mean is that I can't exend my right arm to the same degree as my left.

I'm not sure if its the routine abuse from the stone throws or what. It doesn't really cause me any problems in my real life, but when I try to take the advise of my throwing buddies and extend my arm on the weight for distances, I found that I can't straighten my arm like they suggest and it frustrates me. When I compared my left to my right arm at extension, I found that I just physically can't extend that arm thru the final few degrees. I may have some calcium buildup, scare tissue,...  or ... arthritis. I donno.

Anyone else notice that, or is it just me?

Good luck in your training,

Hey Coach-

Shoulder feels fine.  I had it scoped and repaired a couple years ago - after a wrestling injury. I got thrown (greco-style) and the hard landing punctured my tator cuff... got it patched up reeal goood.

This lack of mobility is all in my elbo. I don't feel any strain in any other areas ... or during clockwise or CCW motion.

Good luck in your training,

-BlueSkies

What's up with this huge left side oblique ( my lovely wife says I look lopsided- THANKS HONEY) and this funky muscle knot thing on the outside of my right knee? Obviously ,it's related to our spinning movements - anybody else gettin' "lopsided"?

Look at all the cornfed pictures you guys took of me and you will see my right arm is permanently set at about 30 degrees from the perpendicular.

even the 56 doesn't straighten it out.

i thought it was just old age, and plenty of it, but listening to you boys makes me think its a "condition."

now i feel better.

Out ot curiosity, if you measured your right arm both forearm and bi-tri and compared it to the left arm is there a big difference?

CuriousBeaux-

If you're talkin bout me, ... since I have no muscles and only a slight frame... there's no observable differences in the size of my little arms. It does not appear to be a musculature phenomena.

It is curious to me that this slightly limited range of motion has no noticible effect on my hammers or stones, but is noticible on the weights for distance. That "long arm" during the spins seems to be important.

Good luck in your training,

-InquisitiveIdiot

Kevin, don't you usually hold your beer glass in your right hand? Try drinking with your left hand for a while and see if the range of motion decreases on that side.

If it does (and it might take 10 years or so to see any difference) then I suggest you alternate one beer with the right hand, one with the left. Maybe use a rubber band around your wrist to keep track of which hand held the beer last.

Keep us updated on your progress!

Good Luck in your drinking.

Kevin, Remember I pointed that out the last time we threw at uncle Don's. It is very noticable when I was watching you throw.

Poor soul!  You have dreaded sheafer's elbow.  Cure is abstain from sheaf tossing.    The issue may be scar tissue.  That can be eliminated but it will take numerous PT massage treatments on the joint, and if you intend to continue throwing, and you are, it would be a fruitless endeavor as you would trying to cure one problem while continuing to do what is causing the the problem to become acute.  It might work, though, if you give yourself enough time to heal and hold off throwing the weights as long as possible.

Prof. Doria--if that maple leaf hat you wore at Oregon Worlds gets any more mileage, it might be mistaken for a 10lb sheaf!

suggest you consult with your Haberdashery.
