Writing a new log..will update later but have signed up for MWC 2014 in the womens 50+ class( yuck getting old) going to compete 9/1@ Altamont- will be going in not having touched an implement since sept 2010( have been steady in the gym and strength levels are decent about 75% of what they were back 2005-09/ hit 340 legal depth back squat,200lb touch and go bench,and 155lb power clean recently). Plan is to compete 9/1 evaluate performance and train(+ throw for sept to compete@Scotland,Ct in October 2013) Dan has mapped out lifting EOD sept and Oct using his Russian Peaking workout he stole from somewhere. On off days from lifting will condition/kb swings + throw).. Dan ordered a 21 wfd from Mike Landrich but don't on plan throwing it till Oct( will enter womens open at Capitol District) hoping to go 35 in 9 lb open stone,33 in 28wfd,60 in 14 wfd,73 in 12 hammer and 14 in 28 wob..of course will TTY and improve for 10/13.. But no better motivation than seeing predictions in black and white..let's go- time to bring it

Been using different versions of Wendlers 5/3/1 for the last year(Dan swears by the majority of it and is solid/no frills strength program which we used for the top high school hockey team we train) 
 
8/19 bench 5/3/1 reps +assitance 
8//20 chest 100 rep challenge 
8/21 squat 5/3/1 reps(last heavy workout up to 315 X 5) 
8/22 leg 100 rep challenge

thanks jp...looking forward to throwing again being on the field w/my friends-throwing far...already stated my goals for next 2 months then will train hard for the following 11 months and try a win a MWC in 2014..wrote down some goals and they are attainable..want to hit 6-10 games in 2014 leading up to MWC and want to(its a huge goal but why not set the bar high) throw the 28wfd 40 feet and throw the 28wob 15 feet by 9/2014 @ 51 years of age..will try and do this by labor day weekend in 2014 which would set me up fine as a masters women thrower for MWC..would like to do Capitol District,Pleasonton(they have a masters class yeah) or VSG labor day of 2014...will keep everyone updated as gym sponsor wants me to keep this log to follow my progress

Pre-comp lift 12-18 hrs before comp is a workout to excite the CNS(dont have any scientific data if it works but Terri used it in the past and her being a gym rat who lives in the gym was a way of her getting a quick w/out in )...so saturday nite 6pm to 9pm(competing sunday) 
Powerclean-3 positions  3 sets x 3 reps @ 50% 
push press 3 sets x 3 reps % 50% 
jump squats 2 X 5 reps % 50% 
quick-light-out in 20 minutes

Terri looked very quick and snappy in her lifts.. Think she will be fine Sunday- then we will re- evaluate and she will throw(some ) leading into Scotland,ct in October...she may do a late Oct or Nov games if she feels like throwing in a womens masters comp..

Wasn't really happy about my performance but realize can't not toch or throw an implement for 3 years and expect to be a resemblance of the thrower you were but will put in the field work over the next 12 months leading up to MWC 2014
Great times happy to see Hapy Meyer,Lacy Johnston,Bill Schmitt,and Jason VonGuiness
Field was wet from yesterdays deluge so a bit apprehensive but I didn't get hurt

Caber. 60 degrees(heaviest caber in 12 Years..no one out of 5 girls turned it)

28 wob 13-0. Three solid hitting the height at 14 but not over..
Back to the gym Tom with lifting eod and throwing eod till Scotland ,Ct in October where I would like to hit 35 open stone/35 28wfd/62 feet in 14wfd/25 feet in sheaf and 14-6 in 28wob

Hey Matt,itching to get out there but don't know how much the knees can handle - once I start spinning they swell so don't know how many events I can do so rather than take an athletes slot at Scotland will help Ken judge/set up. Will do some stone and wob though but the grand plan is to throw at Hapys as it's low key. My brae met and standing wob are still ok as there basically static events

9/1 off. Rest/eat/relax
9/2 bench. Just moderate workout up to 185x1, 3 sets seated sh press. ,sh assistance,triceps
9/3 cleans. Up to 135 for 3, rows,shrugs
9/4 rest
Those 2 days were just to get in gym lift some stuff
Starting 9/5 will lift EOD
Workout will start out with either clean or snatch then into a multi joint movement using 5/3/1 pctge then some functional assistance
On off days will be doing kettle bell conditioning,core work,and actual implant throwing( will work weight for distances in the old tried and true triple progression...standing throw/1 spin/ full spin. Ideally will throw 28. Then 21. Then 14..) lots of stone and caber work..won't work hammers a lot as no hammer in my next game

Terri got a few txts,pms about her workout since the one who wrote it out for her will give everyone an overview 
1) it is influenced by programs from from strength coaches who put forward a simple linear program. It has 2 major influences Christian Thibadua(he had a nice EOD soviet based program which thru correspomdence with him and trial and error has worked well) and Jim Wendler and his great 5/3/1  then hit some assitance-either BBB  or similar for weaknesses   off days will be core work(planks,woodchoppers,pushups,pullups,and some kettlebell work) plus cardio and most importantly throw the implements(working the 17/20 stone drill,some caber tosses,and the wfd triple progression she described above) getting familar w/the implements will alone improve her performance as sundays comp was her first time touching an implement in 3 years  once she is up competing 10 to 15 games a year can cut back on practice but till then every off day will involve some implement tossing

17/20 stone drill. Got about 15 in before failing. Finally felt pop at end of push
Was going toe done but just wanted to measure a few braemers ...this 13.3 granite stone is named Dr Bill( found at Loon visiting Dr Bill) I have thrown it 33-1( mastters 40 yr old record and Denise Houseman who has won 3 mwc's has launch
Ed it almost 30 feet
1 st -28-10
2nd 30-9 really thought it was farther
3rd. 31-2
4th 31-1
Left the field...was at end of the day so felt decent where I am but the key is to keep working the 17/20 drill..best training tool learned from mr 17/20

Ok...Terri's the bomb..after throwing at the field- came home and made a monster dinner...steak..fresh mash potatoes- dinner made for a man unfortunately my throwing wasn't worthy of a man meal..it was a suckfest..but I look at it this way A) it's better to have a suckfest than no fest at all B) can't throw any worse than today
#15 stone..3 standing. 25-30 feet
                   3 glides...31/35/34... Still tentative but ok I guess
28wfd...3 standing...best of 22
             2 x 1 spin...33/35
             2 x 2 spin.. 45/48
Took the 21 and tried one( just had to) 54 feet

Felt ok. Long long long way to go but knees felt stable/ not great but not horrible. Will slowly increase the volume of throws when Terri throws and see about Scotland,ct but def will give some things a whirl at Hapys cold weather classic( baby steps)

Update...knees a little swollen and sore but attribute that to the snatches and cleans as really pushing them and getting air on the jump( am following the same workout as Terri with my pctge of weights) and right bicep is sore( bicep tendon rupture repair arm) but same reason as above..not horrible ouch pain just pain to let you know you hit it well

Ok Dan threw me a bit of monkey wrench he stated that after the next 4 workouts he is switching the training for final 3 weeks..said it is influenced by a top strength coach who he has had correspondence with,but stated it's not a far departure from what were doing( anyone can PM him about logistics) I trust his judgement and planning but will keep on logging
Goals for 10/13 ( events are br.stone,open st.,hwfd,lwfd,caber,sheaf,wob)
If in open womens class throwing the 28. 31/38/33/63/12:00/25/14-6
If in womens master throwing the 21...31/38/45/63/12:00/25/17+
Looking forward to Scotland,Ct as it's a nice homey feely games one of my first full games ever,and usually has 2 men instrumental in me competing and New England legends( Dana Florence and Eric Suave) so will get to see them and catchup

Wasn't able to get to the gym as Dan was asleep most of the day( works overnites and with the UN general assembly in town/ calls for long nits) so went to the gym later than usual and was tired

Took the last 3 days off(Dan had crazy day body guarding Scandal crew and we couldn't get to the gym/ and me and Ryan went foilage/apple picking this weekend).. Ready to buckledown and lift M. W. F and throw m,t,w,th,f to get ready for Scotland,ct 2013... Dan made an interesting comment the first time we went to Scotland,Ct I won the womens class,my son Tim won the junior class( one of the few games that has a junior..under 17. Class that throws with the regular athletes) and Mr Roy Bogue won the amtr A class( think this was Roys last amtr win before going pro)... Hopefully some masters women show up so we can break New England into the womens 21,, with myself and Denise wr have 2 solid female masters who will enjoy the break of not throwing the 28

Ok Terri is really modest and only cut and pastes her workouts from the home computer ( I'm usually the jerk,predicting what she will do but that's my job!)... After talking tonite think she wants to prove something this coming Sunday( she's back?can be a force.) but think she wants to throw far and high and set some 50+ womens marks( she is within striking distance of all 8 50+ marks and may set some( no hammers next week) but will be set for a great off season to get even stronger and more explosive and throw like a demon in 2014 in an effort to win MWC 2014!

Scotland,Ct Games report 10/13
Overall better than Capitol District and steps in the right direction but need to get more reps( practice)
Seemed to have a bit more energy today...Dan had me take alpha gpc pre- comp and had me take backs with carbs thru the day..not better distances per se but feel less sore at home.
Braemer stone 13. 3 lbs... 27-8( down from 29 I threw in practice but felt good) womens 50+ WR
Open stone. 9.1 lbs...34-5(warmups felt great and my standing open was flying but I decided to glide oh well)50+WR
28wfd( yes I planned on throwing the 21 but no masters girls showed so open it was)30-1. Ok
14wfd..all three throws felt good and footwork is solid/speed coming back 57+
Caber...tall thin whippy. 3 good picks . 3 turns. Remembered how to do this
Sheaf...ugggghhh hate this event even though a former open wr holder hate it...cleared 20
28 wob..cleared 12-6 and dropped 3 straight throws on the bar at 13-6( no friendly roll)
Met 2 new friends today in the womens ranks Angela and Hope
Took the womens overall and surprised to take the overall athlete of the day humbled and happy( maybe it was an 2 week early 51st birthday)

Ok I have a bone to pick with Terri...really wanted her to throw the 21 wob but being that no ther female masters at the game was in the open...so asked the AD,the other women and the scorekeeper that after the 28 wob she would take some throws with the 21 now I know in the past athletes competing in open class who are masters have thrown the 56 wob then finished with the 42( ie Kearney smith and I believe ko did this at games)... If this done and a record with the masters weight is made is it recognized? Just wondering / was a moot point yesterday as Terri was to modest to do it. Jeff kaste was going for a pr and she didn't want to steal any attention from him

Ok felt great Monday(usually am a bit sore from a comp) either I didn't throw hard enough or Dans supplement protocol with theBCAA,s helped?? Going to take moon,Tuesday,weds off not because of soreness but am just busy packing the house up for the move to NYC and Tuesday my son is taking me to his stylist to pick out dresses for the red carpet in Nov,and weds he has press junket and a preview screening of his movie and he wants mom along for the excitement..will get back to it on Thursday..hopefully will get to 10/26 games in Vermont,maybe Texas in nov,and possibly a Florida games in Jan or feb( also Dan mentioned he heard something about an indoor games in Buffalo in feb..) we shall see...happy with my stones and lwfd( which I practiced the most).. Next 11 months leading to MWC in Scotland are going to be fun!

Took mon,Tuesday,weds,Thursday off...trolled around Manhattan,packed about 50 boxes of stuff at home but back to it..Dan said mix things up a bit weight room wise
Will be real unstructured but doing Dan Johns south wood ( dropping reps from 8 6 4 to 6 4 2)workout followed by few days of kbellll 10,000 swing workout then repeat but if we feel like just squatting or pulling,will do it
Went to visit a gym in the village that we might join..lots of pluses...Olympic weights we can drop,tons of kbell,med balls,a landmine( this alone is huge), and Hugh Jackman workouts there( actually he told my son about the place..saying it was solid hardcore place)

While Dan has hit 315 x2 in the front squat ,he hadn't gone past 275 in the back squat( he said he had less pain with fronts) this was good for him! Unfortunately I had told him/advised him that unless he could hit 405 in BS he shouldn't try a comeback,well today he was like halfway to 405. Great! Haha.

OMG..haven't posted since 11/27.....yes I'm still alive!(with eyes on the prize for 2014).. Been super busy(packing a house that I lived in for 11 years,opening a business in Times Square,NYC,moving to NYC,being a mom to 5 kids,grandma to 3,babysiitter to DWood).. Haven't missed too many workouts(still a Wendler disciple geared to Terri J(it works) but haven't touched an implement( but it is New England)... Have hit PRs in box squat,front squat,and bench(205 baby) so strength is there! Actually for the first time since my powerlifting have tried a diet(ok it's a paleo for athletes,but was fired up this am when my body fat dropped and I was 8 lbs lighter after 10 days).will bang out some w/outs for the next 10 days but then relocating(could be 1 week or 5)to LA with my son Ryan so those workouts will be up in the air...
Goals for 2014

Box Squat-475(hit 455,and tripled 450 on 1/19)

Ok Ipad's suck...can't post,etc but haven't left..can't wait to hit the circuit in 2014,nail 7-12 games before heading to the motherland for MWC 2014! Am planning big things( but smack talk and bragging is Dans game not mine)

Been hitting the gym hard following Wendlers 5/3/1... Feel strong even though dropped a bit of weight following this Paleo diet( diet rather easy coupled with some cardio has helped me to drop some bf).. Haven't cleaned since Nov. So after the last 2 4 week wendler cycles decided to clean today
95 x3
115 x3
135 x 3
155 x 2
170 x2( grip giving out a bit/ dropped bar on rep#2)
Then to make Hapy happy did some deeds( haha)
185 x 5, 225 x 2, 265 x 1, 295 x 1

The 295 dead lift was the heaviest dead lift for me in a while,but grip on my bad hand is bad/need to work the grippers a bit( have dead lifted 345 in P/L comp at 165,and did 455 x 3 18 inch dead lift with straps at a strong woman contest...grip has always been an issue withe nerve damage)

Still hitting the gym,doing cardio,following Paleo diet( am stronger,eating a ton clean food,down almost 20 lbs- might even do a bench,d/l meet @165) can anyone remind me why I live in NY? Driving from Manhaattan to my mountain house took 1 hr 35 minutes for a 45 min trip..I can drive with my 4WD Honda- just jerks on the road spinning their wheels...was banging away in the gym 8 am to do front squats....interesting funny story-me and Dan were front squatting,Dan had his headphones in when a thin 135 beanpole man of about 55 approached me and said"I think you're doing those knee bends wrong...I said really..when he then stated that for knee bends the bar has to go on your back...I chuckled( saw Dans disgust in the comments) and explained what a front squat was. Quite funny!

130 x 5, 150 x 3, 170 x1,190 x 1,205 x 1(cut this high so wasn't legit)
Went home to eat and relax and now at 5 pm just finished(w/ Dan )shoveling the walk and part of the driveway pf 14 inches of snow-looks like Im going to have a banging sheaf this year..round 2 and another 5-8 inches on the way..woo hoo

She may try and sneak one or two games on the west Coast as she may be in Cali quite a bit

Lifting still going well. Will start updating daily or EOD in next few weeks when I start throwing...
Diet...eating like a fiend on this paleo diet and still dropping weight. Could now compete in my old 165 class and don't feel weak
Threw some wob today just to fool around. 10 throws with 21@ 15-3. All 10 had height( first few peaked in front till I started finishing) all felt effortless and the last 2 cleared by 6-9 inches( that's what Dan said)

Looking forward to seeing some old friends,meet some new ones and hit the circuit

training going strong-feeling real peppy and explosive at my new bodyweight..we will see how it translates to big throws in the next few weeks..only 2-4 inches of snow on the ground with patches of grass..looking forward to chucking some weights..looks like season opener will be JVG's game on 5/10 in Albany

Ok just sat down with dan and mapped out the next training cycle leading up to 5/10 Albany games...this usually entails Dan anally mapping out every lift and throw and me saying well see but it does help seeing a plan printed out in black and white..am going to follow this diet Ive been on as I can see abs and am back in the 160s and lifting the same or more in the main lifts than I was 23 lbs heavier( feel better! )
Goals for 2014
Win MWC! Have my work cut out for me as a formidable field of athletes but as anyone who knows me 2 nd place is the first loser!
Stay healthy..injury free..have a blast kicking it at 6-13 games this year
Op stone.. Hit high 30's and break 40(again)
28 wfd..37 feet
21 wfd..haven't thrown it in comp but high 40s to 50
14 wfd. 68 feet
16 h 65 feet
12 h 76 feet
28wob 14-9
21 wob 16-6

Workouts are EOD..based on tjibadue with wendlers 5/3/1 on core lift...on off days will throw 3-4 implements for5-10 each weather permitting( if bad weather will hit gym for d/b snatches,woodchoopere,core and conditiong. Will do an Olympic lift every weight session and to make Hapy happy( only kidding) will hit dead lifts every 10 days as they do help my grip..looking forward to 2014 big time..haven't been this stocked in a while!

ok this last week(including tom fri 3/28) has been testing for new numbers and all preseason lifts are up from the last 3 years(not bad I just happy that there all at a b/w of 20lbs less and doing a ridicoulous amt of cardio) 
  Plan is to ease up on cardio as season rolls around and add in some sprints 
  Lifting will be EOD,and off days will be conditioning,core,throws(more throws if at Rockland house with yard..less throws if in Manhattan-dont think Central park will take kindly to me making divits) 
  Hoping that at a few games in late spring early summer that some fellow masters women show up so I can get some comp reps with the uber light hwfd for masters women(21) otherwise will play with the young chics and the 28

Bench press 135 x 5, 150 x 3, 165 x 4
Superset D/b incline. W/ low row. 30x 15,90 x10... 35 x12,90 x 10... 40 x 12,90 x10
Tricep press 95 x 12,12,10
Standing ab crunch( med ball between knees) 50 x 16,15,12

Nice and quick( to the point) not much rest between sets..Tom is either conditioning or throwing( have to see how wet the practice field I'd)
