What's the general wisdom for how take your sheaf forks on air travel and keep them safe and unseized by the TSA?  Cases, golf bags, threats, peace-knotted carry-ons?

To paraphrase Eddie Murphy in The Golden Child, "There's no way they're gonna let me get on the airplane with a [four foot pitchfork] under my shirt."

Thanks,

Tom

Golf bag, tennis balls over the tines, note in the bag explaining what it is and what it is for - I use the wiki articles. Usually gets through no issues, though almost always last bag unloaded.

Thanks Brittney,

All my forks have PVC tine protectors, so that's covered.  They'll let an open top bag containing forks through no problem?

Something like this is less than $20 on Amazon:

Would that suffice?

I have a hard side golf case, no open top. Sorry boss.

I use a Burton snowboard bag (no wheels) designed to carry a couple of boards and set of bindings. Big enough to carry a fork, hammer boots and other stuff.  Check it as luggage.

Should run about $45 new, and about $20 on ebay.

Don't for to check the length. Had to trim a couple of inches off my fork to get to fit in a 146cm bag

I will look into the snowboard bag.  Excellent.

I also found a Plano hard golf case that might work.

Thank you both.

I'll tell you what has always worked for me...except that time when the TSA broke my fork...

1.  PVC or tennis balls over the points.
2.  Towel wrapped around head.
3.  Head in a racquetball/tennis racquet head cover.
4.  Little note saying "HEY TSA!"

Badabing.

Which reminds me...DUDE...my new fork is legit.  Are you ready for this?

Regular handle...sanded...Dremel engraving tool...Viking Death Prayer...dark walnut stain.

FLEX.

Sounds brilliant.  Need pics.

Just a reminder too, my friend.  I am still bringing you one / sending you one as well.  It won't be as fancy, but it will be sinister.  If not you, then I'm sure it belongs to someone in my TCAA extended family.  Standby, to standby.

Do you guys have problems with checking them?  is it considered an oversized bag or do they just take it as is? the 146cm bag looks legit though.

I used 2 bags from camping chairs and tape them together. Plus covering the tines with pvc or tennis balls

That works usually. TSA asked me what it was and I said a pitch fork and she was like "alright, on the conveyor belt"

They've seen it all

I hope to throw in Texas at least once this year, and I wanted to bring mine with me.

It's TEXAS. They take pride in that goofy event. Sheaf forks literally GROW there. I guarantee you will bring your fork and find one you like using more there.

I take a pool noodle and cut a strip down the center. Two bands of duct tape, and tennis balls on the tines, then wrap the tines in any kind of towel-backpack combo and you're all good.

Or you could just ship it to me Tom; I'll ship it back when you leave.
