Hey guys, I started competing in May and have absolutely fallen in love with the sport and the people that are involved. I would love to possibly take my games to the next level at some point if I am able and I know that those guys are absolute technicians. I have competed in 6 games so far this season and have 3 left.
The video below is from one of my more recent games and I would be grateful for any technique suggestions or things that I might be missing. I'd appreciate your time. Thanks

For somebody who's been competing for under a year you look rock solid! Maybe a couple of nitpicky things, but at this point you're better off getting in as many throws as you can, and figuring out for yourself what works and what doesn't. Good luck!

be tall when you finish in the stones, dont let your left side pull you into the ground,,, a good que is seeing the stone come out of your hand with your left eye
your landing blocked in the weights therefore not allowing you to finish the throw with your hips, try "sqeezing" the knees when you come around so your left has a shorter path and is closer to the left trig line.

Thanks for the feedback guys!!
Karl what do you mean by landing blocked? My hips not pointing towards the front of the trig? Sorry for the confusion haha

He means that your left (front) foot is "in front" (if looking from above) of your back foot. Meaning, you can never really open those hips. This can also keep you back (right) foot from pivoting thus losing some distance. But Karl is crazy so don't listen to him.
But if Dave Barron (Mr. Natural) says you look good, take that advice to heart. I'd agree. The weights look nice. Just gets those hips open and pivot your back foot. BOOM. You'll be much farther.

Well, I would think the take home message from Craig's picture of Sean is that, in the end, ball separation is MUCH more important that feet placement, no? But feet placement still matters?
After all, since I ruthlessly stalk both Craig's and Sully's videos often, I rarely see them land closed off at all.

Could have been the first one to break 100+ had he had his feet right. No one is going to give you $$ or swords for technique. Speed of implement at release is still the most important factor and Sean always had the thing moving! Satch

Jimmy took a video of me fouling 93+ last weekend. I'm curious to see what my feet placement was at the front.
these guys were pretty good, they landed blocked at the front.
I think landing blocked at the front allows a stronger... drive to zero (haha). Srs though, I think if you land blocked you are able to reach back farther to accelerate sooner but you'll have less push into the field. If you land open you won't be able to accelerate as soon but you'll have more push into the field.
At the end of the day, find what works for you. While I don't specifically try to land blocked, my best throws come from it.

I made no statement either way, I was just posting a 90+ lwfd throw who threw that consistently while landing "blocked". I'm not good enough or technical enough to offer that kind of advice.
If I were to make a statement regarding final feet position; however, it would be that more blocked > more open. Because it seems to me that every big throw is slightly blocked.
Is this throw too blocked?
How about this one?

lol, at Jake and I posting some of the same videos. I guess you can post faster when you don't embed or even make the links clickable 0_o

Wow, well I feel like I have learned a lot by reading and watching these videos so thanks guys!! Sounds like what I need most is to get the weight moving faster
Really appreciate the feedback tho, as new as I am, I feel like I cannot learn enough.

Well, it may be the angle, but to me, both Eric's and Ryan's throws look just about neutral. Not what i would call blocked or closed off. I always thought you wanted to land neutral to slightly open. Not wide open, mind you. Because I would think you'd lose your ability for an effective block if you were too open.
I know I am always worried I land too closed on my throws (I usually land a bit closed too). Maybe I can stop worrying. lol.
Just going by my readings and watching. But I am probably one of the worst technical throwers out there. lol.

if you're landing with your back at 11:00 that's too blocked, haha.
otherwise, don't worry about it imo

I, personally, would rather land too "blocked off," than my left foot in the bucket (track reference). If I land with my left foot wide, I find myself falling off the throw and losing the power and speed I've generated in my sprint phase. Harrison Bailey was another one who used to "block himself," but that guy was a great thrower who threw WFD bombs.
Especially in the HWFD, you have to be careful that your left foot isn't landing wide, thus, halting much of the force you've generated on your way to the trig. You can get away with this more in the LWFD, but the HWFD will pound you for doing that.

Well after reading and watching the videos I really worked on sprinting hard towards the trig and being able to get a good pull and I hit a practice PR of 74' with my clunky homemade weight. Thanks again guys!!

Huh. I'm the only guy I know who ever fouled out the RIGHT side.

Nope... I have done that to glorious, takes-5-full-seconds-finish-falling effect with the 56# once. I went further than the weight did.

You're also the only guy I know who pulled it off with such grace and style. Standard Dave Barron.

I feel the same way as Jake about being a little closed off. Lets you catch and accelerate a little earlier. Makes for a long pull. I think as long as your finish is good and your snapping the hips you can throw farther that way. This isn't T&F
