My friend and I have challenged ourselves to train and compete in the Old Orchard Beach, ME Scottish Festival games next year.  We are completely new to throwing.  Where do we begin?

Watch a lot of youtube! You can find videos of the events all over youtube and some are instructional as well.

I would also look into getting implements. Most people find stones and cabers but everything else you need to either buy or create. There are websites listed above under LINKS here on NASGA for some people who make implements.

Then, I would practice, practice, practice. It's a lot of work to get used to everything, but definitely doable.

Where in Maine do you live? There are 2 more highland games in Maine this year: one in Belfast during the 3rd weekend of July and one in Topsham during the third weekend of August. You can look into those on Facebook I believe. Good luck!

Thank you for the quick response.  I live in Old Orchard Beach.  I will look into the implements and start YouTubing it.  I'm hoping to meet someone local that can give me a little guidance.  I want to be sure I don't develop bad habits that are hard to unlearn.

I would try and get in touch with Alison Tostevin, the athletic director of OOB. She lives in OOB as well and she has implements and may be willing to practice with you. She is on facebook as well. Hope that helps!
