Give me an idea of your breathing techniques for WOB and WFD. As a former powerlifter, I get the idea of filling with air......at the top of the squat, once set to pull in DL, but I'm having some trouble deciding what gives me the best advantage in these two events. For WOB......get air in before the weight reaches the top of the final forward swing, then hold it thru the back swing and pull?.....or pull air in as the weight goes back in the final backswing? Seems the compression of the abdomen as you squat in the back swing limits how much air you can get in. And for WFD (single spin). bring air in on the final back swing before starting the spin or as the weight arcs to it's high point before spinning? This is like getting the Yips in baseball.....I train by myself and now I've gotten into my own head.

Interesting question. Never really thought about it, and now that I am, I have no idea how I breathe in my throws. I probably just breathe on my backswing in WFD and when I drop into my glide in open stone. I only assume this because I have air left at the end to yell. As for hammers, I don't think I could breathe if I wanted to during the throw, so I must do it on my first wind. I can see intentional breathing being more important in WOB and Braemar as they are more static events. I do know I try to hit a good breath right before I pull the caber. I'll pay more attention to it next time I practice. Odds are it'll screw me up and I'll fall down. I feel like you go through your throws so quickly that taking a breath during the first phase and holding it is probably the hot ticket.
