Zerchers of Death I could not sleep last night so at 2 AM I went down to the basement to workout. I started doing Zerchers I had only done them a couple time in my life. In my insomniac haze I decided to do 100 reps 5 sets of 20 with 225. It wasn’t too bad until the last 2 sets when I thought I was going to blow chunks. My poor wife ran down in her PJs because she heard me screaming during the last set.  I slept like a baby. This morning my hams are sore as hell and my quads are noodles.

This weather better break soon so I can use my energy throwing instead of strange lifts.

OK every time I get out of my chair it takes me about 20 seconds because my legs are dead and sore!!

Just remember if you do 100 Zerchers stretch before you go to bed!

One weird I tried putting a towel on the bar but they were a lot harder to do with the towel?

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a Zercher? Please enlighten one that is very new to heavy lifting.

Zercher is when your delt can't hold it to front.

If your physique looks anything like this then I am not surprised you are sore

No, Zercher is for those who can figure out the lift.  I'm not sure about those comparing it to fronts, "I front this, I front that, etc..."  Just Zercher baby, the bruises will go away.

A couple notes Gman. Notice how you are stepping while the 56 is going up? Rule of thumb "if you are or can walk away from the throw, you didn't get all of your power into it".  The fact you are taking a step shows you didn't throw UP!

Next note...the arm is bent. I would guess it was kinda bent on the throw. Again this goes back to not driving UP!  You lost 2' easy by not throwing UP, having a bent arm etc.

I gotta go with Craig, IF you are going to squat, the Zerchers are the way to go. Nothing gets you into a perfect squat position like the zercher.

Perfect for sitting on the can.  And do you have to wear leather sandels to join the Zerk club?  Training with Ghandi.

Last year at Detroit I roomed with Craig.  Amidst him eating twinkies we got talking and he told me he couldn't do back squats because of some abnormality in his back.  I asked him what he did because you have to squat if you're going to do this stuff.  Then he laid the Zercher stuff on me.

I couldn't believe it.  I had read about it and seen pictures but thought it was the dumbest thing you could do.  Then he told me how he did them and the little things you had to watch out for and it made sense.  Then I asked him how much he had done thinking it couldn't be much, like maybe 350 or so.  He told me he had done over 500.

I put 135 on a bar a few weeks later just to try the movement and I've got to admit it wasn't too bad.  You really have to do it right though or else I think you're  asking for a world of hurt.  Same thing for the back squat though.

Mike Smith, the Proud Prince of CRS, told me he's done 500+ to but honestly does that guy do anything that surprises anyone anymore?

Zerchers are a great tool for the leg's,spinal erectors, and such but not everyones favorite..I myself like front squats for the games...used to do zerchers and topped of about 365 for three an yes they hurt but since 2000 haven't used them as when I hold the bar in the crook of my arms i get a real deep pain where my distal bicep tendon was surgically re-attached(one reason I hate practicing the conans wheel for strongman contest) if you can deal with good until then I believe craig will be the mayor for some time to come

Craig is abnormal for sure.  Not just his back.  He goes up near 600 in the zerk, it is incredible.  I tell him to get the bar up there on the delt and front.  It tickles his throat and he laughs while doing it he says.

When you roomed with him did he at about 5:30AM the morning of the game open the door to the room and yell,  "it is a beautiful day to throw!"?

Myles,

He woke up at that time but didn't say that.  If memory serves it was, "Dammit Jason why did you eat the rest of my twinkies you short haired tub of goo!!!"  Then he stayed up so he'd have enough time to do his purty hair.

I would say something about his hair, but I think everyone knows I just wish mine was like that.  Really it is like Craig's.  I can get out my cigar box where I save it and show anyone who does not believe me.
