When putting on the Games for the first time in an area what things do you need/want/do, etc?

Implements for the games (weights, stones, standards, etc) are a given...

Proper area to hold the games that has enough room for the events and space for spectators.  Facilities for natures call.  Spot for the kids to do something related to Scottish things (crafts put on a local pre-school or something...).

Contacting a Pipe and Drum contingent...

Prizes for 1st through 3rd for the athletes as well as a commerative gift for all participants...

Waiver form in case of injury...

What else have you got?

Thanks,

JC

Contacted the Chamber of Commerce.

Anyone else that you can think of to raise money for the band, prizes, etc?

Skip a pipe band and hire a piper or two until your off the ground (or sponsorship)

for entertainment, use local bands ...see if they can play Celtic music/Irish music

st Andrews society/Scottish American society/Irish organizations/welsh/....

bars or other business with with Celtic/Irish/Scottish names for sponsorship or help .... bars for the beer venue, license, ....

Unless this is an informal backyard games, you will want to think about insurance.

This is your biggie!  Finding the bodies to staff a Games/festival/gathering!!  That will make or break you.

As far as events go, athletics, dance, piping/drumming competitions can and should be self-supporting.  lt's too early to be thinking about pipe bands or Elite athletes.  The local pipe band can replace the band comps with performances.  Local entertainers could cover an entertainment stage for small fees.  As far as clan tents and venders, "If you build it, they will come!"
