Clint Garda came up with an idea to move sheaf along quickly.

The athlete gets a total of X misses (call it 4) until you reach a given height (say 22 feet for A's).  After that height, the throwers remaining get 3 misses per height.

Height values would need to be adjusted for classes the various classes or perhaps who is throwing in that class.

I am looking at old score sheets to see how many less throws the event would take, what is the best cut off height, and the number of misses under that height.

Mark, when I judge I advance in 2 foot increments until I have only 2 competitors left. I've been bogged down before when the judge decides to go up by 1 foot with 3 or 4 guys still in. (not that it's a problem for me, I'm usually at the snack bar or taking a nap 'cause I'm out at 18')
I vote for better last place trophies!!

I dont have that event in the AZ games but have competes in it and found that the 2 foot jumps with a good starting point seemed to keep the time table reasonable..

Same for WOB we try to start so that 75% of the group can clear the height even if it is the max they can clear and then move up 1 foot at a time until there are 3 left then we do our best to try and get field records or world if possible ..  I did see an earlier post about having X number of total throws in an event I thought that was pretty interesting..  I think it really fovors those who get more practice as they have a better idea of what they can and can't do in a given number of throws..
