Dave you were the Div.III Timmerman. No clue, what's so special about the left foot in that video. Just a step in drill, no.

I was a dyed-in-the-wool glider back in the day, wanted to be just like Timmerman (especially the smurf-blue tights). But I eventually realized it's a lot easier to get your hips around and into the throw with the full spin or south african.

I never thought about the left foot though. I guess that's why you're the doctor.

I watched the Adrienne Blewitt clips. I knew someone had done this before.

Looking at the left foot turning as part of the initial movement forward with the South African technique is an important point. Nice clip.

If it works use it! Every shot put technique is an attempt at the same thing...getting into a solid power position with a little speed and keeping that separation.  This technique does that for you, so use it.

As a coach of inexperienced throwers I often have trouble convincing them that they can throw furhter with a glide. When they do a standing throw everything is where it is supposed to be and often they don't hit the same position with a glide and therefore only want to stand of shuffle...those are short term gains.

I might use this technique in my coaching and if i ever get my fat ass out to throw again. At the very least it is a great drill to feel the legs and separation in the throw.
