Yo- Tonight was a real eye-opener! All the guys that I use ta workout with are Bigger and Stonger. When the college kids come back to town for Thanksgiving break and drop by our wrestling room at Glenwood High School. Its a time to be reminded that, ... being 20 years old ... is a pretty good thing to be. They were all nasty n stuff. But after an hour in the room, ... I got to talk to the guys about what the college workout were like for them and we wrestled. It was not like the days when I could push them around, yo ... it was pay-back time. For anyone that has gone thru the "Turkey-day workout", you know what I mean (The most ripped 20-year olds from last-year's Conference Championship team are sucking air and announcing about how out-of-shape they are.). Then, they pumped-up the guns. Man, ... all the guys were much bigger and much more physical. This workout was a painful event. I've got mat burns on both ears... that's when I KNOW it was a hard workout. I was in the right place at the wrong time. They all talked about doing presses, squats, cleans, snatchs and bench. Nothing fancy. When the swelling goes down, I'm gonna kick some ass. Good luck in your training, -Stonger, Faster, Younger

Kevin, I have a solution to that problem of yours. I am currently coaching my sons 3-8th grade little league team. I would have to recommend this, as I can whoop anyone one of those little rascals -Bigger, Better, Bully |

I would recommend a great movie (The GREAT
Santini) Robert Duvall...this woke me up in terms of raising up a male sibling...I mistakenly thought that the young lad would be a physical challenge "upon" graduation from college.... Well either pop's
got a step slower...or junior got a step faster...upon beating him the summer of his SPOHMORE year in HIGH SCHOOL with an all area b-ball player in a 2 on 2 contest...I ran out of the treachery part of the "age and treachery" will win out...
THe kid as well as as ALL of the kids that I have coached have given me PAUSE to THANK all of them...Have a GREAT Turkey Day! mac~ When I here folks complaining about having no shoes...think about the folks with NO feet !!! |

Aye, Coaches- I work with the HighSchool, JrHigh and KidsClub wrestling teams during these long cold winter months... and love every minute of it. I have back-to-back practices on each M-W-F of the season to make time for the 3rd, 4th, 5th graders too. Have introduced takedowns, reversals, escapes along with workouts, weights, toughness and sportsmanship to more kids than I can remember. I've wrestled every varsity wrestler (and most of the rest of em too) that has gone thru our school system for more than a decade. The pain from taking a beating from one of my students motivates me as much as the pleasure of the workouts with the young ones. I enjoy wiping the sweat, or the blood, off my face and smiling at them with that "It's just a flesh-wound" crazy-coach look. Sorry for going off-topic, -NoWeakness,NoFear |

That is a great movie Coach, I would recommend it even if you aren't raising a male child.

Coach Kevin and Mac, It is pretty hard to beat the feeling you get when the kid you just taught a cradle to uses it the next weekend to win his match. The smile he gives you and the understanding of what you showed him far exceeds any excitement you get out of your own accomplishments. My father once said, "To do something well is to truely master it, to teach something is to truely know it but to coach it is to truely love it." Thanks Dad/Coach |

Tim- You're right on the mark! It's hard to beat that feeling of a kid with a medal or trophy in his hand looking at you with a smile and knowing that he learned something from your efforts. MacDuff- I don't believe it! No, no, ... I believe you were captain, ... but I'm not gonna believe you never won a match and I'm not gonna give ya the chance to win your first one either. In the last 3 open tournments that I competed in, I was the oldest. I wrestled other coaches, cops and prison guards... and I can tell you that its no real advantage to be the oldest ... and the slowest. Good luck in your training, -Moe'sPubWrestlingTeam |
