"465x1-lost balance a little so didn't get to parrallel" Falling forward or backward? I had this happen to me for the first time in my life a week ago. 405 to parallel...hips down/chest up/head back...I felt a weird contraction in my back. Didn't lose the weight, but it was weird, like the weight moved out of its original plane and went backwards, then forwards. No idea. |

That was the most I ever tried to squat and I might have been thinking about it too much. Felt like I went backward a bit then had to lean forward a little so came up. Chris Chafin was in the rack next to me and said I almost hit parrallel but it sure felt sloppy. Need to get me some hanging straps and move my squats into a cage for going heavy. Would love to get a good solid 500 squat.

Bill, When I do 500, I assume most of my reps are parallel...or close to it. As long as it isn't some lame arse hack squat count it as a good lift! Really, how often are you going to go parallel in this sport anyway? And besides, 500 is 500. Half an inch here or there is no big deal. Good for you man. Hanging straps are good for you! Spud makes a good set.

Bill, are you asking me if I am going to travel all that way to be humbled, most epically, by my training superiors (as has been par for the course in my short HG career!)? Seriously not sure I could carry those fellas' gym bags. We will see if the knee is ready for that kind of lifting and movement...it feels strong, but I have not been cleared to do any sort of "athletic contests" yet. Hard to live with, given that even getting out of bed when you are short and fat is an athletic event, requiring aerobic conditioning, stretching, and upper body strength...not to mention a lot of inertia. I am giving it some serious thought!!! Discretion is the better part of valor... But fortune favors the bold... |

I thought you were in the carolinas too for some reason. I've read your log too and I dont see you being humbled, but no sense hurting yourself while healing and mess yourself up for life.

3/27/10 not so much training but we got paged to a barn fire full of stacks of styrofoam sheets. I fought fire for over an hr. and sucked down 3 bottles of air before the EMTs got me to rest and get O2 and have my BP checked (do everyone). She gets done says"holy crap you've got very good BP" was 116/78. I said no bad for a 310# dude huh? I think they thought they'd get to throw me in the rig and run me to ICU. Who says weightlifting is all bad for you huh?

Been a yr since posting here. Changed over to Zerchers for a change
and really like them. Hang 2 6foot choker slings in a power cage to hold bar. Start lift with legs below parallel. Hit a 540 dead last summer and hoping for around 600 sometime this yr. Concentrating on pulls, squats and overhead presses mainly. 3/4/11 zerchers 135x5 225x5 315x5 325-5x5 overhead press 185-5x5 neck harness 3/8/8 rack pulls from knees to 625x3 wrist rolls 100lbx4(overhand,underhand,overhand,underhand=1 rep) 3/11/11 hex bar deads high handles 255x5 345x5 435x5 525-5x5 worked on speed off the floor and fast reps without bouncing Neck harness work 3/12/11 shriners Celtic fest-1st time trying atlas stones got 240 and 300 up. A lot different than natural stones for sure. Throwing was about what I expected after 6 months off except hammers were not to bad. |
