9/20 - New Hampshire Highland Games

Light Hammer - 87' 5th - crappy start to the day
Open Stone - 42' 7 2nd - (SB)
HWFD - 41' 11 1/2" 3rd
LWFD - 62' 3rd
Caber - 10:30 3rd
WOB - 16' 3rd
Sheaf - 25' 4th

overall 3rd

Had my best games overall at Loon, a little disappointed in Sheaf and Hammer, but my other marks were very close or at my season's best.  Its nice to see all the open stone work pay off.  While I have a couple games I will do this season - my official offseason starts next week.

My plan is to build up my base strength, with alternating weeks of heavy and light squat and deads, with feeble attempts at submaximal presses every session to rebuild shoulders.  With the occasional stone lifting session and odd lift/grip stuff thrown in.

9/25 - hockey
9/28 reffing seminar -about 1 hr skating
10/1
Deadlift - 135x5, 250x10x10 ss with bench press 95x10

Ack! This may have been a bad idea, I really don't think I can get through 10 sets of 10 squats, I guess we can see if mind is stronger than body this weekend.

10/2 hockey
10/3 hockey
10/5
Broke up some concrete with a 10lb sledge- about 45 minutes
Squat 95x5, 135x5x10 ss with dumbbell incline press 25sx10

Decided to go lighter and sets of 5 on the squats... 2 nights of hockey, plus that 10x10 deads, plus the sledging, my energy level was kind of low.

10/7 rehab stuff
10/9 hockey
10/11 octoberfest strongman at harpoon
First event was 1-arm press with barbell made up if 2 kegs weighed about 120 - got 3 reps
2nd was keg power stairs - mark tried to kill us by having us load 7 kegs up 4 steps, carrying them all about 15 ft. Kegs were 118, 120, 200, 225, 250, 275, 300. Everything was going great until the 275 keg and then the wall hit me hard. Finished the series in 2:25, but was 100% out of gas.

3rd event Viking press. As you might know I am a horrible presser, not sure of the weight exactly, but others were saying maybe 280ish. I didn't get a rep in.

4th event keg load onto fairly high box. 150,200,225,250,275,300. Missed the 300 and decided not to finish, the stairs had finished me earlier, and I wanted to save something for games tomorrow in Scotland,ct

Feeling ok tonight, got some sweet bruising going on. Will see how much I have in the tank tomorrow

10/12 Scotland Highland games

Braemar 31' 2nd
Open stone 39' 2nd
Hwfd 39' 2nd
Lwfd 53' 1st
Caber 12:00 1st
Sheaf 28' 1st?
Wob 14' 2nd

Form felt pretty good all day, but was like I was stuck in 2nd gear, and couldn't move as fast as I normally do, completely bonked by wob, was lucky to get 14'. Doing games after strongman seemed like a good idea at the time...

keeping stuff light on Tuesdays, getting back into the groove - told myself it is better to train light regularly, than train heavy but miss days when I am too tired/busy.

Good luck to you and your crew Dan!

11/11 - light day
Squat 135x5, 195x3x3
Dead 245x5, 335x3x3
Kettle bell clean and press 10KGx10 (each hand), 20KGx5x3
plate twists x a bunch with 45b plate - did some seated and some standing - the seated ones seem to hit my abs more than the standing ones.

In my experience, standing ones are more full trunk/core work and seated hits abs more specifically. Either way I like doing em. Thumbs Up

Seated ones may hit the abs more.....BUT are you looking for the Matt Vincent selfie six pack or are you looking to get the hips and feet involved in a twisting motion that translates more to throwing....just a thought....

oh and the world cant handle Hapy with a 6 pack.  6 packs go IN belly....not ON belly...

11/13 - Hockey
11/15 - Backyard games at Mark Currier's

24lb Braemar - 27'
Open 37'
HWFD - 37'
LWFD 55'
18.5lb hammer - 70?
Caber didnt turn
WOB 14'8

Not that bad given the circumstances.  20 degrees this morning, never really got going, maybe the beers at 10 am had something to do with it.  Still lots of fun playing with old friends, and the sun came out for about 1/2 hour.

11/20 Hockey
11/22 reffed 3 games (about 4 hrs medium skating)
11/23 reffed 2 games (about 3 hours medium skating)

Was going to try to come home from reffing on Sunday and get my deadlift work in, but just not feeling up to it.  I got a cold I am fighting off, and all that time on skates, plus the 9 hours in the car driving last couple of days has me exhausted.
