16FEB15.

Soreness/ache in the right hip, posterior to the greater trochanter.  Felt mostly in the bottom of the squat or when sitting down in the car.  Thoughts?

28FEB15.

After two years of box squats I have switched back to ATG style.  To early to tell if the hip gets better.

28MAR15.  SAT.

Moving into in-season training.  Without getting into the minutia of the off-season the outcome is this: what was once my 1RM I now do for reps, body weight is in the ballpark of 195-200 and BF% is down, and I am as explosive as I can be.

Time to throw and bring it onto the field.

02MAY15.

State of the Union

BW 187
Bench         227 (3:5)
Press          120 (3:5)
Squat         400 (for doubles)
Dead Lift    490 (for a set of four)
High Pull     235 (for doubles)

My press and bench suckith wang.  I am what I am so I own it.  Got to improve these.  Solid base I think with the squat and dead lift; would like a better high pull.

Got a few games this season with the first being 09MAY at the Beltane in Ohio.  Alma, Sandy Pines, Gaylord (still spots open until 22MAY!), Saline, Kalamazoo, then WMC in St. Louis.  Throw wife and the five into the mix along with coaching the O-Line for the Varsity (I got promoted this off season) and HOLY WAH!

SUN. 03MAY15.

Practice cut short by C-Section.  Got through the stones, WFD, and one caber toss.

MON.  04MAY15.

SQT
ZER
BN
PSH DWN
HMRS

Cut the normal WO weight to 60% then basically did warm-ups.  Beltane in OH this Saturday.  Last season I treated lifting and competition days as exclusive from one another with varying results (soreness on game day, etc.).  Trying this avenue of light work the week of a game.

SAT.  09MAY15.

Beltane, OH.  Masters.

WOB 12' clean and gave three good rips at 13'; very close here.
Sheaf Out at 24'.
Caber 18'6 with a 10:30, 12:00, and a 12:15
22# Braemar was 25 and change
16# Open was 31
HWFD was 32 and change (PR)
LWFD was 46 and change (PR)
HH was lousy at 61 and change
LH was 81 and change (PR)

I think I got 6 or 7th in the class of 12.  Most fun was watching Mark Ludwig come back, Dale Gehman hitting it, and Doug Stieger was is cool whether he is throwing or doing a crossword puzzle.  To all the other guys I will see you next time I am in Ohio.

WED.  13MAY15.

Practice: All nine events.  Highlights were the hammers and sheaf.  WFD also felt really good.  Caber was saturated from the rain so heavy as all get out.

THU.  14MAY15.

Crunched for time.  No pre-workout PBJs.  Dragging.  School meeting about son getting suspended for fighting (did not start it but finished it) and then something in oh...twelve minutes as oldest two are going into highschool next year.

Anyways...

Press             120:3x5
High Pull        DNP
Dead Lift        495:1     495:1     495:F (two weeks ago I got 490 for 4 reps on the first set.  grrr)
T-Bar              DNP
Leg EXT         130:3x10
DB Fronts      15:3x10
DB Laterals   15:3x10

My PR on the DL is 501x1 so still like where I am here.  Will hit 495 after ALMA and see what happens.

Sheaf: par
WOB: not as consistent as I have been.

Alma this coming Sunday.

I just read a post on here about 80-90% throws in practice.  I have done this and I feel it helps.  It is a big temptation to resist "trying to kill it" after a nice, relaxed throw that gets out there.  Reminding myself to go easy helps me stay loose and focus on form and hitting the positions.

One caveat is that there are times when I try to get pissed off at the weight on game day it is difficult to feel where to apply that energy (especially in the height events).

SUN.  24MAY15.

Alma, MI: A-Class

Open Stone: Decent start.
HWFD: Meh.
WOB: 10' clean then two good rips at 11' as one of them hit the ground before launch.
HH: Hit the cage on the first throw.  Second and third were nothing to write home about.
LWFD: Disappointing.
Caber: Two turns on 18'6" caber that was too small then on to 19' that I got degrees on twice.
Sheaf: New PR on the 25# sheaf but way out of the league of the other guys.

Rain held off most of the day.  Alma in the books.

Press            122:3x5
High Pull        230:5x2
Dead Lift       495:2     495:F    495:1

Really wanted to hit 500 for reps; my best 1RM is 501.  I was hitting 490x4 just a few weeks ago but now not so much.  Going to drop the DL to 475 and slowly work back up.
