14JUL10 WED

Practice with Dale.

Stone: Just worked on the open stone. Did some good
things there and hit 28-29'

WFD: The one turn then two turn progression is working
out. 20' on HWFD and 45' on LWFD; Dale said I need to
wait a bit more on the initial cast and then get under it
as I am turning before it gets out there.

Caber: 85* was my best. Frustrating as Sunday went so
well.

Hammer: Winds and then more winds with much thought on
long arms. Then went into a grip and rip to try and
really feel the active pull. Did the one and done then
turned it into three turns and rip it; got better as I
went.

Sheaf: Sub-Par.

WOB: Par but felt extremely heavy.

Put off work out until tomorrow. Instead did the 1st
Annual Alpenfest Unspunnen Stone Throw (122#). Got 7'11"
on the best of two throws then went for a 10mile bike ride.

18JUL10  SUN

Practice.

19JUL10  MON

Deload for Squat and Bench.

21JUL10  WED

Practice with Dale.

Stone:  Good work here today.

WFD:  Hitting 19-20' HWFD and 45' LWFD.  The one turn throws are making the difference I think.

Caber:  85-90*

Hammer:  Good pop here.  70'ish.

Sheaf:  17+ with the new fork.

WOB:  Got 9' but 10' is elusive.  I feel like I have lost the groove I was in earlier in the season...need to get it back.

22JUL10 THU

Deload part 2 for Deads and Push Press.

Starting next week I am adding Power Snatch to Mondays and
upgrading the High Pulls, on Thursdays, from an assistance
move to a full weight movement so the weight will go up
appreciably.

25JUL10 SUN

Practice with Dale

Stone: Highlight was the open which hit the top of the
burm (32').

WFD: Feeling good here with 20' and 45' respectively.

Caber: Couple at 3 and one at 130

Hammer: Did some good things here with speed and pop.
No blades today as left knee is acting up after the trip
up the falls; still did not wear the brace.

Sheaf: 18'

WOB: Played with 10' hitting it on the way up.

Felt good overall.

26JUL10 MON

Start of second month of 5/3/1

Snatch: 80:5...95:5...105:10...75:5x10
Squat: 200:5...230:5...260:10
Bench: 140:5...160:5...185:9
Chins: 4x10

It was late so I did not do the additional sets of the
Squats and Bench. Felt good today despite running all
day and not eating a real breakfast or lunch; dinner was
awesome (Chicken on the grill, grilled potatoes, peas and

28JUL10 WED

Stone: Got over 30' with the open stone and 24' and some
change with the Braemar

WFD: HWFD was over 20 but not 21 and LWFD got 45'

Caber: 3 o'clocks

Hammer: Finally got a grove going on and hit 75'. In
order to keep the arms long your hips have to be opposite
of the hammer.

Sheaf: 18'

WOB: Got my grove back and hit 9' 2/2 then hit 10' 3/3.

Good practice to end on before the games this weekend.

29JUL10 THU

Leading into game day on Saturday did not want to kill
myself and be sore like I was after Monday's Squats.

High Pull: 100:5...115:5...130:10 (to my chin)

Deadlifts: 275:5...315:5...350:7 (could have done more
but stopped when reps equaled 420 1RM)

Push Press: 100:5 (SP)...115:5 (SP)...130:5 (1st rep was
a SP with PP the rest of the way out)

Military Press, Chins, and some Dips finished with a
7mile bike ride.

Stomach is churning about the games on Saturday.

Practice with Dale

Stone: Great day of open stone! 32'-33' range.

WFD: HWFD hit 21' and LWFD was 42'

Caber: Couple of 3'O and a 90* that would have gone over
if the wind hadn't stopped

Hammer: HH and LH did some good things here with speed
and release angle.

Sheaf: 17' (in hurry now so did not play around with
changing the height of the standard) consistently

WOB: got 9' but just shy of 10'

Practice

Stone: 18# for both with Braemar at 25' and Open hit at
29'. Felt like I really hit the power position out of my
shuffle.

WFD: DNP

L-Hammer: 70' on the three throws each. All told thirty
winds. I have seen other posters (Duncan) mention "heel
toe" what does this mean?

Caber: Finally got a 12 on my 19' practice caber (the
same one that has defeated me since Midland last year)!!
I only got the one twelve out of fifteen throws (#13 of
all numbers) but it was worth it.

Sheaf: 18'

WOB: 3/3 at 9' and hit the bottom of the bar with the
barrel of the weight at 10' on most of the next seven
throws.

Deload Week.

Calculated my 1RM for Incline Dumbbell Press

55# x 18reps x 0.0333 + 55 ~= 90lbs

Will do IDBP 5x10 at 60% next week (which is 55#) then add
5# each new cycle for an accessory exercise to flat bench.

Dunc, this one is for you!

Practice with Dale.

Got off late from work so jumped right in...

Caber: Turned! Felt good to have Dale see it with his
own eyes. After all the time (and patience) he has had
with me I want to make him proud.

Hammer: Good throws. Beat my previous PR of 59' with HH
by four feet or so. LH had nice pop! Thanks, Dunc.

Sheaf: Hit the bar at 20' and all the rest were over 18'
easy.

WOB: 2 out 3 at 10'

Doctor says I have 'insulted' my ACL (did it the weekend
and it has not gotten better over the past few days) and
MRI shows significant swelling. Back in the brace,
motrin, and ice.

Calumet here we come!
