Do you enjoy the landmine?  Notice a translation to throwing?  Mind dropping some knowledge on us...i.e. how to isolate the muscles and not just heaving it?

I do not have the "true" landmine, I just stick the end of the barbell in the corner and protect it with two pieces of wood.  I have not been doing it log enough to speak to any throwing translation.  I would think that there should be some benefit though.

I have seen one version that is very strict in the movement and that would be more effective in isolating the muscles.  The way I have done it involves more hip flexion.  While this is more of a heave, I think the addition makes it a bit more applicable to a carry over.  The slight rotation with hip extension just changes the standard vertical extension associated with the O lifts.  Of course I wouldn't recommend trying to max out on landmine rotations.  I just try to have a dynamic but smooth hip extension/rotation with a controlled decent on the other side.

There may be some cross over to spinning WFH but I would know since I subscribe to the Don Stewart School of Standing WFH.

Had some family issues that kept me out of the box the last few days.

KB Swing & Snatch combo warm up #35 and #43

Barbell Thrusters sets of 5 at #65, #95, #115, #135, #155, #175
-Good solid sets.  I would like to be over 200 in the next couple months.

Front Squats sets of 5 at #195, #215, #235
-Legs were getting tired but the movements felt great

RDL sets of 6 at #265, #305, #375, #375, #375
-The top end of my deadlift is horribly weak compared to the bottom half.  Breaks off the floor like nothing but  a bit of a grind after the knees.

Throwing with The Stewart

16 lb shot x20 drills and scottish style

-Really working to learn the spin.  Focused on foot work and trying to be smooth.  Hit some decent numbers but nothing significant

53 lb kb for distance x10, 56 for distance x5, 28 for distance x10

-The KB is a really interesting tool.  Immediate feedback on your position and really makes you let it throw itself.  If you are fighting it you feel it right away.

-Timing on the 56 is a bit off, I think I have to focus on left leg activation and nailing the first turn.

-Smooth and loose was the mantra for these throws.  Amazing how easy you can hit upper 50's when you are smooth.  If only I replicate that feeling when I give it some pepper.  I also need to work on a increasing the angle of release.  Don's throws continue to gain elevation until they just drop.

16 hammer x10

-Same as above, long and smooth was the mantra.  Also focused on throwing it "just over my left shoulder" as opposed to "behind me"> I have found that I bend my arms at the end of the throw and hook the hammer when I "throw it behind me" . When I “sweep and release” off to the left and just behind, the hammer travels almost straight back and much farther .  Averaging in the upper 80's so I am really happy with that.

Overall, first time out this year and things are looking pretty good.

Thanks man, I would like to hit 225 for 5 in the near future.  I have gotten there before but only for 2-3 reps.  I actually find that heavier OHSs are easier than lighter ones.  As long as you stay in your grove, the weight pushes you through the ROM.  Lighter weights tend to be wobblier.
