Looks pretty good. Time to start adding speed to the last wind and getting a big pull.

Rob....jim did tell me that slowing the first spin down helped him set up the orbit better. My suggestion (and I welcome comments from all) was to do what I used to do...namely, spend time in the yard winding the hammer as fast as I could. Basically, start off normal speeds, then try to get the third spin up to "competition" speed, and then try to get a 4th, 5th, and 6th spin at least.

What that did for me was teach me how to control the hammer when it is moving at is quickest.

1) need to loosen up over the top- throw your hips foreword, point your chin up to the sky and roll your shoulders over the top of the wind on your 2nd and 3rd rotations. Think LONG over the top.

2) Low point looks relatively consistent.

3) It looks like you loose a lot on the pull. You need to keep your arms as long as possible. Make sure your hips are set and drive them to the sky on the release- chin up and head back- Think of throwing the hammer with your hips- not your arms.

Watch Brocks pull and release. The hammer stays as far away from his body as possible on the pull- radius and speed.

A couple of things i see.

I think its a really descent throw, a couple of things I would focus on would be the head movement.  There is way too much head movement side to side at the beginning of the throw. Keep the head a little more steady. I like to get my head up and back to allow my arms to stretch over and lengthen and not have the head there to fight with. Like greg said I agree with the low points being consistent. I feel that there is a need to sit more which will allow you to use the legs at the end if the throw to lift the hammer.  Really fight to offset the hammer with the hips which will create stretch and lengthen the hammer.  The more sorer your abs are after the workout the more likely you are creating that stretch.  The longer and faster the hammer is the farther it will go.

On the release you must block hard and sit back over the back leg extending the block leg .  I have a picture of a good release but i could not post it here for some reason.  I know some of this could be confusing and i could better explain over the phone if needed let me know.  thanks

All

Thanks for the critique on the throws. This is proubably the hardest event for me to figure out since there is not much in my college throwing back ground that transfers.

I had a feeling I wasn's siting enough/bending my knees during the throws. That is proubably what is preventing me from stretching my arms out as much on the overhead and throwing me off balence when I try to add speed.

As I come around the top my shoulders should rotate to the right as I bring the hammer over the top correct?

Yes.

BUT, don't overthink it or you'll end up tying yourself in knots. Everybody's technique is a little different, find what works for you. You already have decent form, just get after it!

2 things that Larry does better than anyone else I've seen is:

reach WAY back behind the right shoulder and pull the hammer down into the low point

and

Lean way back and point his face AND chest up at the sky as he begins his pull up and release.

its just nasty.

Using blades or just one blade?  Can't tell.
