I believe in either helping set up or help take down the feild and equipment for the games .

Also , make the audience part of the games . talk to them , even hand a weight after the event is done so they know just how much the impliment weighs so they have a better understanding of how hard it is to throw .

Remember when mom told us never throw stones ?

I was talking about being over having people standing in my focal point.  As for the trash talking....i know it can get bad, and I haven't seen the worst of it, haha.

Dont constantly whine about your "injury" prior to throwing, and after throws that are not that great.

If your sick, or injured... dont throw... if your well enough to throw then dont complain about being sick or injured. It comes off like you are stacking up excuses incase you have a poor performance.

Yes that is the point. With no hammer cage I can only see the hammer head coming off and slamming into someone's shin. That has happened before I believe.

Every time I've seen someone utilize the hammer cage, it was flying straight at a spectator, in one case it was at my now Fiance, so I can honestly say I am very glad it is there.

I'm thinking about all the times your coming to the end of an even,
the last guy in class goes to the trig as everyone else is done and
walking away. Stay out there. (time permitting of course) but leave
no man behind. ..that last throw you don't watch might be the one
that does does you in.

Remember that most games are family events and mind your language!

If you are not happy with your throw... take the temper tantrum into the
porta-john. Don't throw things and stomp around like a 2 year old.

If you bring a chair from the athlete's tent to field... take it back when
you're finished along with all of your trash, tacky, wraps and tape.

Don't leave your fork, spikes or anything else lying around the athlete's
tent in such a way that they are likely to be tripped over.

If you can't stick around for awards, don't expect to get them in the mail.
Make arrangements with another athlete or the AD if you want them. It
will be assumed that you don't want them if you're not there.

The judges and volunteers do this because they love the sport, the games,
the athletes and most are there on their own time and money. Little things
mean a lot.

If you are new... listen, watch and always ask. You have just joined one of
the craziest families in the world. You are the little brother or sister no
matter how long you've been throwing other things in other places. Be
the kind of new sibling that the big kids want to have around.
Familiarity breeds consent

this happens so often and the same thing with extras. I love watching extras, seeing people go for PRs, field records, national records, etc. It's a shame when everyone walks away and doesn't care.

After some one takes a throw don't go up and tell them every little thing they did wrong.  If you have a tip focus on the positive, tell them what they should be doing instead just what they are doing wrong.  I as much as anyone appreciate that in highland games we are all here to help one another and I love getting good tips from experienced throwers but it has to be done the right way.

If someone is fool enough to give you the microphone, don't waste it by being dull. Keep it clean, but make the crowd laugh. Especially if it's at the expense of your competitors.
