8/9/14      La Crosse Irishfest

Lots of fun. Good Crowd. Hometown Games. Great group. Getting to throw with Rhett is always a highlight of my season. Thanks to Jason and Jane for all the hard work. Wade, thanks for rambling into the microphone for hours on end instead of throwing.

Open Stone: 43', 45', 48'3 ***Felt good by the end but had to work the kinks out***

HWFD: 39'11, 42', FOUL ***Felt a bit wonky, no lift at the finish***

LWFD: 79', 76', 74' ***Felt off here too, not sure what was up***

16# Sheaf: 26' ***Came in at 26, hit it on my first with magical height then all hell broke loose. Hooked 3 outside the uprights at 28'***

20'x 110ish Caber: 11:30, 12:00, 1:30 ***Pulls felt nice on a decent caber. Only 3 of us turned it so I'm happy to be in that mix***

WOB: 17'6 (Spinning) ***Came in at 15' standing. Power felt good but decided to spin at 16' since I haven't done it all year. Wanted to see where I was at. Went for a PR at 18'3. 2nd throw was nice and high but peaked out front and tore my thumb...that's just dandy!***

Hung out after. Ate fest food and giggled a lot. Went for pizza later. Slept in and did not make it out to breakfast in the morning, sorry gang.

The End

8-16-14     AMATEUR CHOMMPIANSHIPS!!!

Big thanks to Kevin and Lenny for all the hospitality and hard work! Thank you to Jeff for judging and keeping us in line all day and to Colin for being the pack mule for another year! He worked his butt off all day and walked up a very un-fun caber about a billion times. The new field was very nice and the crowd enjoyed our antics. The competition itself was a dogfight and it came down to consistency to get the win. Congrats to Rob and Sean who were solid all day and reaped the rewards.

Here's how my day went...

22lb Hammer: 97', 94', Fall Down ***This was feeling great. Opened with a nice easy saftey throw but then had a wierd slip on my 2nd and went full retard on my 3rd.***

B.Stone: 37', 37'4, 38'4 ***That is a season best for me which would be nice but it still put me in the bottom half! Got to step it up in this event***

O.Stone: 45'10, 45'11, 44'7? ***Had a big throw in my but just kept blowing through my positions.***

HWFD: 39'10ish, 42'10, 42'6 ***New FR so that was nice but still wasn't hitting anything close to a good finish. Lots of head down, pelvic thrusting***

LWFD: 72', 77', 80'10 ***Last throw felt very nice***

Caber: 45*, 85*, 85* ***Shortish Heavy Caber... just could not get it to go... very frustwating***

20lb Sheaf: 24' ***This was my nightmare! Felt great, going high, arching not at all! good for 2nd to last and putting me out of contention for the win... which sucked***

WOB: 15' ***Same as sheaf, could not figure out my arch problems. First throw at 16' had major air and came down on the bar and did not get the roll. The next 2 nailed the bar on the way up...poopy***

Chommps: Chicken, waffle fries, tater soup, tonic water, icecream tower..... much to my surprise, no butt troubles whatsoever. I blame Rob for not stopping at Popeye's on our way back to the hotel... that surely would have had me fart-barfing all over that poor hotel bathroom.

It was great throwing with everyone and to meet some new buds... hope to see them all again soon.

Great to meet you Luke.  Awesome throwing.  Sad to hear of no good bathroom stories the next day.  The desert alone should have done it.  Yes, we should have gone to Popeye's.

8/23/14      Cherry Valley Throwing for the Cure (saving boobs)

It poured like crazy most of the day with lots of breaks for lightning. We had fun anyhow and much money was raised for a good cause. Jason, Jane, kids and crew did an awesome job! The prizes were freakin' cool as always and I got me a new sheaf at the silent auction. FIST PUMP! Throws were terrible as expected. Just took it easy all day. Should serve as a good warm up for Waukesha next weekend!

8-24-13       Deads and Push Press

Deads: 155x8, 245x8, 335x5, 405x5, 455x3, 455x3, 505x3, 505x3

8-30-14    Waukesha Highland Games

This is a very cool competition and I'll definitely come back in the future! We had Ams, Pros, and Women all throwing and scored together. Made for a fun day and a very unique scoring dynamic. It stormed on and off all day which was too bad because it forced us to drop heavy hammer and WOB ): I wish I could have stayed for the Irish events on sunday as well but sadly I had to get back to work. Thanks to RJ and crew for the hospitality and great time!

B. Stone: 34'2ish ***Heavier stone that I could not get a good hand on... had a better throw in me but I couldn't dislodge it apparently***

Open Stone: 44'10ish ***Odd shaped stone but it felt great to me, just couldn't hit a good finish***

HWFD: 43' something ***Felt good but was all over the box***

LWFD: 77' ***That throw felt good but it went way too high***

16lb Hammer: 119' ***first 2 throws went 119' One slipped out early and one stuck in my hands. Tried to put it all together on my last and fouled crappy. Sad***

Caber: 70* ***This was a tough caber but I know I can turn it. I only got 2 attempts due to the weather which sucked but what can you do***

4th Overall

All things considered it was a decent day for me. Very cool to throw with Craig, Gillingham, the Burchett Bros and Chafin. Looking forward to doing this again next year.

Went to Madison and ate BBQ with Rosliks, Faltis, Christy and the Lady... and all was right with the world!

9/20    QC Highland Games, Davenport IA

Santa and his crew put on another great competition! Had fun and jacked around all day. The monster cookies here are my favorite! Eric Rothwell is a new addition to the midwest throwing scene and he's damn good. We ate food and creeped on some locals before heading home... solid day.

Scores are up so I won't bore you with that business... the theme of the day was tiredness. Getting into town at 3:00 AM is not ideal but thats work for ya! Still managed and ok showing in most events.

Last games of 2014, looking back on the season as a whole I would say it was solid but left plenty of room to grow. Off season lifting has started now but will still try to throw once or twice a week as long as weather permits. Working mainly on the stuff that really needs it...STONES, and hammers too.
