Threw the light hammer yesterday. Put the blades back on. Cranked the speed to maybe 80% and hit 96-6. Felt good, but I gotta reach back and trust my blades more.

Not bad for a year without blades.
The first time I ever threw in blades was during a comp. I ended up jumping forward (away from the trig) after releasing the hammer. It looked like 3 winds, release, and then a 2 foot broad jump with blades. I landed on both feet. Kerri Stug ain't got sh*t on me - lol.

Stupid URI that turned into a particularly nasty sinus infection this week. Pretty much an entirely lost week of training, but today was the closest I have felt to normal. On the upside, I have my excuse for being terrible all ready to go this season!

Coached the wife through a clean and deadlift session. She PR'd big in both so I was fired up after that. Threw weights yesterday. WFD sessions are all about de-constructing my technique right now, so the distances were pretty irrelevant. I ditched maybe half of the before I even threw them. ------ Today: Squat 135x10 225x3 275x3 305x3x3 185x12 5 second pause last rep Bench 135x10 185x3 205x3 225x3x2 225x5 135x20 5 second pause last rep Dips 10x3 |

Stones and 56 weight for distance on Thursday. Tweaked my left knee at some point throwing the 56, but it's manageable. Stones went 43', weight went 29'.
Today I played 18 holes of disc golf and ran about 1.5 miles. Tomorrow I am attending an oly lifting clinic geared specifically for Highland Games athletes. Should be a good time, lots of regional folks coming out of the woodwork. |

Yesterday I did around 150 hammer winds with no release. Did 5 very slow throws to work release.
Worked WOB. Like everything else, trying to break down my technique completely, so no great heights were reached. --------- Today: Cleans (worked in with Mrs. Egg) 45x5 65x5 75x5 135x3 185x3 Deadlift 185x5 225x5 315x5 365x5 Push Press 135x3 165x3 195x3x3 - each set felt easier than the one previous DB Row 80x12x5 Curls Giant sets of dumb stuff x3 |

Threw the 28 and 56 WFD Friday. A bunch of neighborhood kids helped me mark my throws and then I taught them how to toss the weights and stones. Fun stuff. I hit 30'-2" with the 56 twice, but didn't measure any others. ------------------ Did like ten snatches yesterday and a few 1-hand snatches. The 5 year old was sick again, so I didn't have time to do much.

Threw in my first games of the year yesterday. It's super early still, so it's really like a pre-season exhibition. Not a bad day overall - couple of bright spots, and a couple of disappointments. North Texas Kickoff Games - Fort Worth, TX Braemar - 30-9.5 Open Stone - 39-5 HWFD - 29-7.5 LWFD - 61-11 Heavy Hammer - 77-5 PR, Light Hammer - 92-8 Caber - 45 degrees Sheaf - 26 WOB - 11 Ended up 3rd overall behind the immensely talented Duncan McCallum and Isaac Burchett. Stones were both disappointing, but I know I can whip those into shape. Weights were on track. Heavy hammer benefited from some coaching by Isaac and Duncan, but I tried too hard to apply that to light hammer, and therefore got too hung up in my head and was trying to analyze and throw at the same time. Caber was better than in years past, I just didn't time this one up well enough. Sheaf was surprisingly easy, but my timing started getting wacky when I tried to add some legs at 28 feet. I feel like I'm going to go big in sheaf this year. Weight over bar was a massive disappointment. It's a combination of weight room, recently working on completely changing my timing in the event, and only getting a few hours sleep the night before.

Progress is usually pretty dull, looked at day to day. Its the glory on game day when it all comes together that makes it worth it.
Looking pretty solid.

My jerk felt strong, and wasn't anywhere near failing me. Gotta get the clean timed up and I will see some bigger numbers I think. |

I caught like 100 frisbee throws from kids aged 5-12 and holy shit if that didn't turn into a sprint/agility session. After lifting and that, I was so dizzy from hunger that I came inside and and devoured a sleeve of Peeps, 2 granola bars and a raw mushroom.
Yeah man. |
