Thanks guys. That was really unexpected. I figured I'd top out around 515/520. Maybe I don't give myself enough credit.

Haven't lifted much in the past week other than squats. Things today were a little slower than normal.

Thursday - 3/5/15

2.5" Fat Bar OHP
   235 x 5 x 3

Incline Bench
   250 x 10, 8, 8

DB Rows
   2.5" Fat Handle x 90 x 30 total reps
   Reg Handle x 120 x 30 total reps

Rear laterals and Arms for a couple sets

I started the off-season with a squat of 470...5 months later I hit 545 at roughly the same bodyweight.

A year ago I could barely back squat 435 because I always focused on the front squat.

Huge progress.

Thanks guys.

I skipped the trip to Golden Corral and opted for a Macho Burrito from a Mexican joint down the road. My splatter experience afterwards didn't quite reach Luke status but it was close. And Rob, I-4 is all you bud. I'm not man enough for that lady.

Thanks Craig. There were multiple factors that led to such an improvement. It also helped that my back squat was so pathetic to begin with after years of mostly front squats.

Saturday - 3/7/15

Deadlift
   405 x 1
   455 x 1
   480 x 1
   505 x 1
   455 x 5 x 3

Front Squat
   275 x 3
   315 x 3
   335 x 4 x 3

Snatch SLDL
   275 x 3 x 10

Abs Fall-Outs

lol

This does surprise me a little, especially as someone who didn't do back squats until relatively recently as well.  Front squats kept my back squats just fine when I finally did do them.  Perhaps it's just an anthropometry issue?

(I didn't back squat for well over a decade)

Craig -

I contribute my weak lower back and horrible form (super/over arching of lower back and then basically turning into a GM) to miserable squat numbers.

This offseason I changed some stuff:
   1) I used the SSB about 80%+ of the time back squatting, which I think did wonders for my form and back strength.
   2) I started incorporating quite a bit of sldl and other forms of deadlifts.
   3) Changed to more upright (for me) squat mechanics with a more neutral spine.
   4) Committed to the descent and got a bit of a rebound, instead of moving slower on the negative which I used to do quite a bit under heavier loads.
   5) Tons of back-off sets in the 80-90% range to increase volume.
   6) Made back squats my primary squat and front squats became a secondary/accessory movement.
   7) And I finally invested in real knee wraps.

Monday - 3/9/15

Flat Bench
   305 x 3
   325 x 3
   345 x 3 x 3
   275 x 3 x 5 (close grip - reps paused 2" above chest for a 3 count)

Chins
   BW x 6 x 10

OHP
   185 x 10, 10, 9, 8

Ran out of time. Whatevs...

Tuesday - 3/10/15

The snow is still here but its getting warmer so I'm gonna start doing stuff in the driveway again until the fields are clear.

WFD #42 Indoor Weight
   Full x 15 (quite a few out to 54' - 56')
   1-Turn x 5
**I felt like my full throws were missing something on the finish, despite making the final pull the focus of today's practice. All of my 1-turns were around 50'. I'm no expert but I don't think my full throws should be 5-6' further than my 1-turn throws. The 1-turns felt best when I waited just a bit before the sprint and then again right before the final pull so I could keep turning my right foot. I'm thinking I may not be doing this very well on my full throws.

Light Hammer Walking Winds x 10 @ 50-75' each
**First time doing these. Very awkward at first but then I got the rhythm. When I went back to do some regular winds it felt like I was able to get my shoulders turned to catch the hammer much quicker than normal.

Wednesday - 3/11/15

Back Squats
   365 x 2
   405 x 2
   435 x 1
465 x 1   **I think my next goal for the future should be a 500 squat - no belt no wraps. We shall see.
(Add belt and light wraps)
   490 x 2 x 2

SSB Squats
   365 x 3 x 5

GHR
   3 sets

Pull-Throughs
   3 sets

Thursday - 3/12/15

2.5" Fat Bar OHP
   235 x 3 x 4

2.5" Fat DB Rows (between sets of OHP)
   90 x 35 total reps

Incline Bench
   275 x 5
   255 x 2 x 8

DB Rows (between sets of bench)
   120 x 3 x 10

Glide/Stop Drill between sets

WFD #42 Indoor Weight
   1-Turn x 7 (best at 52')
Full x 3 (best was beyond the 56' from Tuesday but I didn't measure)

I really focused on waiting a split second before my final pull and it made all the difference. I need to start applying this to the full throws. I'm gonna keep doing the 1-turns and see if its starts making a difference in the full throw.

Haha...you're welcome. Now it's your turn to set the bar higher.

Monday - 3/16/15

Flat Bench
      **1st rep paused 2" above chest - 2nd rep touch-n-go
   285 x 2
   315 x 2
335 x 2 (this was pretty hard for the paused rep)

      **All reps touch-n-go
   355 x 3, 3 (butt came up on a few reps - oh well)

**All reps paused 2" above chest and close grip
   295 x 5, 4, 4

**Back to regular reps for a quick pump
   225 x 15, 15

Various Lateral Raises
30 lbs chain each hand x 60 total reps
**No real reason for the chains. They were there and I was bored/wanted variety.

Chins
   BW x 60 total reps

Arms
   6 sets Shocked

Not able to get in the gym on Monday like normal.... Life.

Tuesday - 3/24/15

Flat Bench
   335 x 5  (touch-n-go)
   315 x 5 x 3 (first 2 reps paused 2" above chest)

Chins
   BW x 50 reps

Dips
   Chains again - dropset style - 60 lbs/ 30 lbs/ BW - 50 reps

Rear Laterals

While lifting the past few weeks, my son (16 months) likes to take my slingshot compression cuffs and place one on each arm. He then comes to the glass door looking out to the garage gym and bangs on the window and watches while I lift. I've got my first fan and he's the best ever.

Life has been a bit crazy lately. I have been able to find the time to train here and there but logging hasn't been a priority.

Sunday - 3/29/15

Deadlift from blocks (weights were 3.5" from ground)
   405 x 3
   455 x 2
   500 x 1
   (add belt)
   545 x 1
   575 x 1

Deficit Deadlift (standing on 4" block)

   365 x 3
   405 x 3

   275 x 5
   295 x 5
   315 x 4 x 3

Monday - 3/30/15

I didn't think lifting was going to happen today but a short 45 minutes opened up so I improvised

Did the following superset style (set of dips, chins, sledgehammer, rest, repeat):

Dips (10 sets)
   +50 x 10, 10, 10
   +75 x 8, 8
   +100 x 6, 6

SledgeHammer on Tire (5 swings right/ 5 swings left)

Tuesday - 3/31/15

My wife and I were able to get an inspection of the house that we made an offer on. If everything continues, closing should be near the end of April.

Wednesday - 4/1/15

Got a root canal on a front tooth and then was able to train an hour later. Not feeling the front of my face while lifting was pretty funny.

SSB Squat
   410 x 3 x 3
   370 x 4 x 3

HCB - 100 x 3 sets
Jump Squats - 135 x 4 sets
GHR - BW x 4 sets

Started Spring Break on Friday and I'll soon be headed to San Diego for some fun in the sun. I'm not sure if much lifting will take place. I'll have to see what the hotel has to offer.

Saturday - 4/4/15

Took my son to the Michigan Spring Game. It was a great experience but trying to watch a football game with a 16 month old is definitely not the easiest.

Kept things very simple today. Alternated sets of bench and rows. Took about 45 minutes.

Flat Bench
   315 x 2
   335 x 2
   355 x 2

Close Grip Bench (reps paused 2" above chest)
   275 x 8 x 3

Fat DB Rows
100 x forever and ever and ever ever

Sunday - 4/5/15

Took a break from napping on the couch with my son to hit some weights.

Deadlift (elevated 3.5")
   500 x 10 x 1
**One rep on the minute - every minute

Front Squat
   345 x 5 x 3

Snatch SLDL
   225 up to 335 - sets of 5

Back from the West Coast and had a great time with the family. No lifting took place but with all of the activities my wife planned, I wouldn't have had much time or energy anyways.

Sunday - 4/12/15

   315 x 3
   335 x 3
   355 x 3
   320 x 5, 5

Chins
   BW x 50 reps

DB Press (OHP/ High Incline/ Low Incline - rested long enough to adjust the bench)
   80 x 10/8/5, 10/5/5

Rear Laterals - 30 reps

Curls - 30 reps

First REAL practice with the weights since everything before this had been with the #42 indoor weight on my driveway.

The cues for today included: quick feet on the the 1st turn and creating separation on the first turn before the sprint.

HWFD x 8 (best @ 43')
Didn't plan on measuring anything because I figured it'd be terrible. Had a few that went a ways so I got out the tape. 3 between 40' and 42' and 1 out to 43'. I must have pulled that 43' out of my ass because I wasn't able to replicate it the rest of practice.

LWFD x 6 (best @ 77')
Not as good as HW but had one out to 77'. Most were around 74' to 75'.

It's a push, not a pull. Amirite Sully?

Nice BTW

Jeff - I sure hope so. I'm losing out on a bunch of opportunities this spring and early summer. I'll be missing 6 games that I normally attend for various reasons. Now the pressure is on to perform when it counts.

Nate - It was neither a push nor a pull. I'm pretty sure there was some sort of shift in the earth and the weight happened to travel slightly farther. My only focus was quick feet on the first turn and separation.

Monday - 4/20/15

Busy evening meant I had to cram everything into about 45 minutes.

SSB Squat
   315 x 3
   365 x 2
   395 x 1
   415 x 1
435 x 1 (no belt no wrap PR on ssb)

SSB Squat (touch n go on a parallel box)
   365 x 10, 10, 10

GHR - 5 sets
