What: 9 event Heavy Athletics Contest
When: Saturday, 9/20 throwing start at 9:30
Where: On the Mississippi Levee, Centennial Park, Davenport, IA
Cost: $30
Why:  Why Not?
Divisions: A, B, C, Masters, LWs, Women Masters, ...

-- with LW Nationals on same weekend, I will run LW division if I have 2 or more. -- btw Throw far for all those at the 15th LW Nationals, in Tulsa !  I expect to feel tremors in the LW throwing force 600+ miles away.

-- This is 1 week after some little olde masters event across the pond.  So the masters will be broke and beat up but consider coming out and throwing with the first person to break a world record on QC athletic field ( a masters record) as he is due to return this year.   Maybe he can fell another Masters record.

Friday night will be a strongman demo with semi pull and some other strength stuff

Ye Be Warned - Sad News - John Moore cannot make it this year as the announcer.  Thus, my registration has some dumb arse questions to give who ever will be announcing some silly bio information as he may not know the throwers as well as John.  Please bear with the questions and my appreciation for answering those that you do.

The Perks are lined up so there is no reason to not sign up.

Dr Jennifer Levan will be providing Chiropractic Care
Marge Gast will be providing massage therapy
Brewmaster Dan Cleaveland (thrower and co-owner) of Blue Cat Brew Pub will be providing a 1/2 Barrel of his Scottish Ale called Scottish Terrier for the throwers to enjoy after the event.  He has been brewing the beer for 16 yrs to honor the games!

Lightweights, Masters, A, C, and Women divisions are a go.  I still would like to split the Masters in Age groups.

B class is close to being canceled with the throwers being pushed up to the A's.  The same for women's masters but and of course they will be throwing in the womens (not the A's)

Friday the 12th is deadline to lock in a T-shirts.

I wanted to make Jason and Jane Clevenger a hammer for their silent auction at throwing for the cure.  This summer has been somewhat of a disaster and did not get around to it.

I also had a hard time finding lead.

A finally got around to making a training hammer (16.5lbs rather than just over 16lbs) and I would like to do a belated silent auction on this at the QC games this weekend.  ALl the money going to throwing for the cure.

1/2 whippy PVC electric conduit handle -- Flared end fits into hammer, no shims

SO IF YOU WANT A HAMMER, BRING CASH
and support a good cause.

PS --- I melted down my 35lb coffee can training weight to make this hammer, so I may put in a minimum bid -- if that is allowed?

Illinois to Iowa Drivers:
The bridge next to the festival (US 67 - Centennial Bridge) is closed for construction.  If your crossing the Mississippi, find another route.

The arsenal bridge is just a 1/2 mile up river.  However, it  is a swing span bridge and may be closed for badge traffic.

The other options are the I-74, I-80, or the I-280 bridge.

I am not a fan of the I-74 bridge as there is no shoulder and one accident can close the bridge and I 80 is a bit out of the way.

From I-280
Take first exit -- make a right (east) on Rockingham Road.  This will intersect with River drive (US 61 North) make a right . This will take you to the park holding the festival.   Just past Oscar Meyer, start looking to make a right on either Marquette st or Gains St.

From I - 74
take first exit cross over State St (one way going east) and make a left on Grant (one way going west)  This will become US 67 river drive.  Take this into Davenport.  You will pass casino and baseball stadium.  Make a left on either Gains St or Marquette St.   Gains is street that runs along baseball Stadium
