Threw at Dave's. Lots of hammer (especially heavy), WFD, a little WOB ---------- 8/7/2017 ME Lower Plyo --- 1.) SL Broad Jump --- 3 x 2 each; 2.) Seated Box Jumps --- 3 x 2 1. 12" SSB Box Squat --- 1RM @ 365, relatively easy, still quite sore from throwing 2A. Bulgarian Split Squat --- 2 x 5 @ 95 2B. Band Pull throughs --- 3 x 8 2C. Vertical Pallof Press (in 1/2 kneeling) --- 3 x 8 each 3A. TKE's --- 3 x 15 each 3B. Heel and Toe Walks --- 3 x 20 each 3C. "The Bear" Holds --- 3 x 20 count Dropped snatch out. seems like they bothered my biceps a little bit, probably the 'catch' of the hang snatch. Since the bicep stuff hangs me up frequently, I just dropped them. I'll add them back in the off season when throwing is lower volume and see what I can do to remedy the problem in the future.

Topeka Games We went in non-traditional order, I'll try to write it up in the order that we went.... H. Hammer - really struggled, but I was not alone. Couldn't grip it, couldn't get things going. Well under PR. 69' 0.5" for third. L. Hammer - see above. 88' 1" for 4th. Braemar - this was a beautiful stone. Really awesome. Hit a pretty sizable PR at 32' 11". Still got 4th though... Open Stone - Pretty much the same as above. We used a stone that we had used previously in the year. Solid improvement on this stone and a life time PR at 42' 9". Still 4th HWFD - Felt decent. About 3" under a PR, so right in the ballpark. Best placing of the day in 2nd. LWFD - I was looking forward to the lightweight as I have consistently underperformed in games and training had been going well. This carried forward with nearly a 6 foot PR. Really happy with that.... obviously everyone else has been training their light weight as well, because I ended up 4th here. WOB - Hit 13'. Again. Seriously I need to get to 14'. 3rd. Sheaf - Ehh... hit 24' again. Pretty much standard here unfortunately. Need to get this moving. 4th. Caber - the larger caber that we were supposed to use got broken early in the day. We only had a really tiny one left. Everyone flipped a 12. We called it there.... Five way tie for 1st? Had a good time, hit 3 PR's so no complaints there. Plenty of really good talent in this area to compete against, its impressive really. This was a good way to get tuned up a little bit going into a stretch of big games coming up here in September and early October. Should be a blast.

OK ScotFest - Tulsa, OK Headed down to Tulsa on Friday and got a good night's rest in. Festival was at a great venue and had a really good crowd. It was lightweight national's so we didn't follow traditional order. I'll try to recount things as we did them. The A class was totally stacked. HWFD - Had an OK series, my sprint was really lacking though. Went 28'11" for 6th.... I actually managed to be in the lead after the first round, due to fouls - that went away in rapid order. Kind of a humorous start to the day. LWFD - Continuing to struggle a little here. Went 55'4" for 9th. Just couldn't get moving. Braemar - 29'5" for 8th. Felt OK really. Open Stone - Went 41'. Last throw felt pretty good. Ended up 6th. Sheaf - This was shockingly a bright spot. Hit 25' for a PR. Peaked behind the bar and crushed it at 27'. I feel like that is there. Made some technique changes that have really helped - thanks Jon haha. H. Hammer - This thing felt super heavy to me for some reason. Threw OK. 75'1" for 8th. I really need to get this up along with light hammer. L. Hammer - see above. Went 98'7" for a PR...and eighth place. Caber - Probably the biggest stick I've come up against. 19'6" and 118#. It was really windy too which wasn't helping matters. I managed 2 reasonable picks and a 45*. I was actually pretty satisfied with being able to get 2 good picks in. Michael Dickens with the only turn. WOB - Finally cleared 14'. Again, thanks to Jon for some tips. Really happy to end on a PR. Had a blast overall and hit some PR's. Still have plenty of work to put in to get competitive. Back to work today. Wichita games on Sunday. |

Ok... Going to briefly get caught up here... End of season re-cap
Wichita Games - Ended up 4/7. Threw just ok... was beat after ScotFest, driving back, and a rough week of work. No PR's but nothing absolutely terrible. Other than caber - per usual. Kirksville - Threw in a group with 4 pro's and some really good A's. I was way out of my league here. Really had a pretty solid day with PR's in the LWFD, HWFD, and heavy hammer. Still got last in the A group. So somewhat satisfying, but a lot of work to do. Overall, had a great time this season. Threw 9 games this year compared to 3 last year, which was really my first season. On my goals from the beginning of the season, I missed the mark on sheaf. I was just a few inches shy on both hammers, but I hit big PR's and beat my goals on both stones, WFD's, and WOB... so nothing to complain about here. Getting goals lined up for next year. Starts off with a little bit of boring, high volume work... |
