do you even need more accessories when you just did nearly 40 reps of deads over 325#?

I think NOT

But how can I expect to grow massive uvulus muscles and tone my cloits without accessories?

Those muscles sound like things that they are not.

Bodies are weird indeed. Like Male nipples. What's the deal with those?

7/21 bench

5,5,5+5,5+
195x5, 225x5, 250x6, 225x5, 195x15
Kinda of disappointing to only get 6 at 250, but this is the first time I've handled more than 225 for any amount of reps in a couple months so ...meh.

Incline barbell
135x8, 185x6, 205x6, 225x5, 185x2x6, 135x10 paused

I generally don't like to do 3 days in a row, but it didn't feel bad and tomorrow is supposed to be nice, so I want to get out and throw after work. This will be my first practice where I'm actually preparing for a competition, so I hope I don't get inside my own head and crumble to tiny little pieces.

7/22 throwaway

Sheaf pulls x8. Meh.

WOB pulls x12. Figuring some stuff out and implementing it more consistently. Felt good.

Open stone
Stands x3 best of 39'
Glides x5 best of 42'

Light hammer
3 winds x6 best of 102'

Overall solid practice. Just over two weeks until game day. Can't wait.

7/23 squat

22" box squat
245x5, 315x5, 355x5, 385x5, 405x5

17" box
405x3x5

No box
405x3,1,1

Working really hard at maintaining tightness throughout the entire rep rather than relaxing to get as deep as possible for no real reason.

2" Deficit landmine RDLs
10,10,8,8 @90. These felt cool. I like how I'm really able to sit back on these. We'll see tomorrow if they did what they were supposed to I guess.

7/23 throws

Lots of WOB pulls. Dialed in at 15'. I think I missed one or two out of the billion I took. That's a good feeling.

Lightweight
Fulls x5 best of 63'

Pretty low-energy practice, but some good things got done.

7/25 throws again

I had some scrap 2x4s laying around the garage, so I fashioned a toe board. I haven't trained with one for years, and I've noticed it sometimes freaks me out when I get inside a real trig come game day.

42lbs heavyweight
Fulls x5 best of 43'. No scratches which was cool, but I kept missing my finish.

Open stone
Stands x3 best of 38'
Glides x6 best of 41'

I either pulled my right foot into a good power position or hit a good finish, but not both on any single throw.

More wob pulls
Cleared 15' branch 7/8

Hit 17' branch 2/5

Sheaf
Cleared 28ft branch by a good margin 5/5

Pretty good practices this week. I ain't mad.

7/26 OHP

3,3,3+,3,3+
135,155,175x4,155,135x12
These felt bad, but that's fine. Throwing volume has increased, so I'm cool with a little performance decline in the gym.

Dips
Bodyweight x10, +55x3x10, bodyweight x20

7/26 throws

Did a little games simulation for the weights. Did my warmups outside the trig and took 3 throws.

Heavyweight
Foul (left side), 39', 41'. I won the event, so I took two extras. Best of 42'.

Rolled into lightweight with no warmups
59', 61', 63'. Wouldn't you know it, I won that event too. Extras were 60',62',61'.

Wob- hit 15' a couple times

Sheaf pulls x10ish. Over 28' branch for the most part. Shanked a couple. It's tough to know where to line up in relation to to a spriggly pine tree branch. I'll have to figure that out come game day.

The competition wasn't too stiff. Although, technically I also took last in every event.

7/26 PM lifting

Just some "bro" fluff stuff.

Lateral raises (pause at the top, slow eccentric)/band face pulls
20s x3x10/12

Bilateral curls(slow eccentric)/band overhead tricep extensions
20s x3x10/12

Unilateral band lateral raises
1x10 per arm in front of body
1x10 per arm behind the back

Bent over rear delt flies
10s x3x12

245lbs frame carry
2x50'
1x100'

Got a free hex bar and pair of 100lbs plates. Figured I should use them for something.

I did a lot of things today. Proabably going to feel that tomorrow. Going to try to taper the lifting volume for the rest of the week. Some type of deload/active rest next week leading up to competition on August 8th.

7/28 deads

A very, very lackluster training session today. My body felt fine enough, weights moved well, but my brain was just not into it today.

3,3,3+,3,3+
365, 405, 455x4, 405, 365x6 (was completely out of damns to give)

Definitely left some reps in the gym today, but that might not be the worst thing. Less than two weeks till game day! Yeeeehaw!

7/29 Bench

3,3,3+,3,3+
205,235,265x4,235,205x15
Played it conservative and left a rep, maybe two, in the tank on my top set.

Incline
135x5, 185x5, 205x7,8,6, 155x2x10 paused

7/30 squat

17" box squat
3,3,3+
285,325,365x10

Lose the box
415x1 super easy. I was very tempted to make a big jump, but cooler heads prevailed and I hit some backoff sets instead.
365x3x2

Stiff leg deads
135x5,185x5,275x5, 325x2x3

Dropping the volume in anticipation for active rest next week.

Wrong on both accounts. I'm getting used to my new squat technique and I think it's going to yield some real benefits. I just decided that trying something circa-max a week out from competition would yield no benefit even if I got a PR. And if I failed, hooo boy, that would wreak havoc on my fragile psyche. Ain't nobody got time for that.

PM throws

Open stone games simulator 3000
39',38' fell off my hand, 41' meh.

Light hammer games simulator 4000
Foul, 100+, 100+. Took extras. Foul, 100+, farther 100+. I only have a 100' tape. I'd estimate my best was 105-106 range. Others were 101-103ish.

Heavyweight games simulator 5000
Walk through 39', broke out of my hand foul, 41'. Took one extra 42'. Need to remember to take my first throw in competition nice and easy just to get a mark. Also don't tape my fingers so tight. Made it hard to close my hand, hence the breaking out on the second through.

WOB 4/6 @15'. Got ahold of a few good ones in there. Need to remember I don't have to try hard at anything 15 or less. Just do things right and it's all gravy on the cake.

Sheaf pulls
Cleared 28' branch 6/6. Last three were big. Even my daughter was impressed.

Feeling good. I've never practiced so much or been so prepared before. Now to just not be a headcase.

Makes perfect sense.

Looks like your throws are solid, you're ready for a solid comp!

Everything has been feeling good. I just hope to not poop the bed.

8/2 lift then throw

Strict press w/ axle bar
115+skinny red bands 4x3

Open stone
4 fronts best of 32'
3 stands best of 39'
4 fulls best of 41'
I feel like I'm getting close to doing something good.

15' branch wob
5/5

8/3 deads

2.5" deficit deads (beltless)
135x5, 225x5, 315x3 365x3x2

Single arm DB rows
100s x2x5 per arm

Intermittent sheaf throwing until Vids stabbed himself in the leg. Pretty much the exact same spot Wade stabbed himself 10 years ago. Just as gross this time around. Bent the tine too.

It was a clean pass through on the front of his shin. Apparently there is a muscle there that I don't have. We just went with the peroxide and duct tape solution. He did do three more sets on deads afterwards too.

I've seen people snatch off their kilts but never actually hit a leg.

So the real question is, did the leg clear the bar?

8/6 squats and throws

Back squat
135x5, 245x3, 355x3, 405x1 paused. *add belt* 425x2x1
355x2, 355x1 paused front squat because I forgot what the crap I was doing, 355x2 back squat again.

Medium heavy squats a couple days out from a comp usually set me up well for reason. Here's hoping that trend continues.

Throws

Way too many heavyweight throws. I just felt lost in the trig today. Best today was 42' but I was wildly inconsistent. I couldn't seem to put myself in a position to finish well. I'll get it sorted by Saturday.

WOB pulls at 15' branch

Decided to disregard all the things that have made this go well and left my first three out front then I overcorrected on the next two and hit the branch on the way up. Finally, remembered not to try so hard and just be patient and ended 4/4 on my last throws.

Sheaf
This was flying today. Felt really good. Used the nice tight new bag and the old floppy pillow bag and both went equally high. Used new holes, old holes, and really really old holes and everything was going well. It was nice to end on a high note.

8/8 Mason City Highland Games
First off, thanks to Nate and Mrcus for putting this event on. Everything ran really smoothly, great field, just an overall awesome experience. It felt oh so good to be on the field again. As for the throws it was an up and very down day. Also, thanks to Clevenger for being all judgey.

Heavyweight
Foul, foul, foul. Good start. Normally, my fouls come out the left side, but these were all straight down the middle, but I ended up toes to trig and just didn't have enough ass to keep me in the box. Throws were pretty good to kinda big distance wise. Looking back, I could have saved them with a bit of a reverse step, but I didn't.

Lightweight
So first event couldn't have gone worse unless I had torn my ACL then squished a puppy when I fell down. So, pressure is off. Not that there should have been pressure anyway but I was real jacked and super nervous coming in. I just let things flow in lightweight
63 PR, stuck in hand and shot off to left 64' PR weird, 63. Not so bad.

Heavy hammer,
Nice whippy half inch handle.
73,76,85 PR. Finally got the timing right on my last throw in order to use the whip rather than fight it.

Light hammer
102, 108 PR, give it all the beans at all the wrong times. Fall down. Foul. Not too grumpy.

WOB
15'. Took three shots at 16' but it was not to be. Hit the bar on the way up and then again on the way down on 2 attempts, but never got the roll. Minor disappointment.

Sheaf
28. The bar was free floating and the bag pushed it out of the way on the way down twice at 30' Hit it on the way up once. Should have just thrown it higher. Another minor disappointment.

Braemar
33, 33, 32. One of the nicest feeling stones ever, I just had no pop left after standing around during height events.

Open
39, 40, 40
See braemar.

Caber
Sucked. No turn. It got really hot and humid and my tacky would not set. My hands came apart twice on the pick and once on the pull. Stupid tiny baby hands. A little finger tape probably would have helped, but I had no craps left to give.

It's hard for me to focus on the positives because bombing out of heavyweight when it had been going so well in practice is really eating at me. I left many many feets on the field, but I came away with 3 lifetime PRs and tied two in the height events which I threw probably better than I ever have but the rolls just didn't go my way. At the end of the day, it felt awesome to throw again. Just being on the field feels like a win. But, friggin' heavyweight. Seriously.
